Metabolization of ADs

Posted by Fran Wang on April 13, 2000, at 1:25:20

My husband is Northern Chinese and I am an Caucasian mix. My 16 year old daughter had a bought of depression a couple of years back and during that time her doc mentioned that the livers of Asians metabolize drugs differently. After she had a peculiar reaction to the mix of one Fiorinol taken for a migraine with her Paxil, the AD she was on, I had her tested at Georgetown University by a psychopharmacologist. He found that indeed she has a gene that metabolizes things like Tagamet differently but nothing that related to the Fiorinol(and that class of drugs).
I wonder if there is anything more we should know or have her tested for or watch out for that is unique to Asians or Chinese patients, specifically. The only other med she takes regularly is an antihistimine for allergies and at present she is free of depression for two years.

James here....

There is some info elsewhere on bobs site about this issue. Maybe he will comment, too.
