Anyone have any experience with Zyprexa?

Posted by Maud on April 11, 2000, at 16:11:14

I'm switching over to Zyprexa from Depakote because I can't tolerate the side affects. Zyprexa is an anti-psychotic that has just been approved for bipolor (I'm a rapid cycler). I'm already starting to get dry mouth and feeling dingy and if it gets worse I may just chuck the whole drug merry-go-round and try the natural route. Also, anyone know about Depakote withdrawal dangers? Thanks . . .M

I have had a very good experience with Zyprexa. It has really stabilized my thought process and helped me to a saner mind. Generally if you are going to react to Zyprexa you will see it in the first week sometime. The worst side effect is the weight gain. Don't give up on it too quickly, it's been very good for me.

My dad (80 years old) just started tonight. He has periodic episodes (every couple of years) characterized by the delusion that he eats too much. Last time he dieted down to 75 pound. It's happening again - I'd guess he's around 85-90 right now - so weight gain would be a big plus.

I'll keep posting on how he's doing

FP,

I hope your father does well with the Zyprexa. I was able to notice a difference in just a few days. For me It was a great relief when it came to thoughts that were obsessive or delusional. Hope it works as well for him as it did for me.

I switched from risperidon to zyprexa and found out that life improved: I am able to think more clear, with more associative thought, a great plus in my work, I am feeling more emotions and have a stronger libido. I've lost weight a bit. On the negative side is that I 'wiggle' in my sleep, so much that it wakes my wife. Does anyone know what this could be, I hope it's nothing serious...

Hi
I am on zyprexa also. In the beginning I was sweating and tremoring in my sleep, my husband also woke up because of that. But it dissapeared by time.
Give it a little time. It should go away
