Hello, My pdoc told me to take 2.5mg of zyprexa in the evening and 2 more at bedtime. I was having alot of problems sleeping at night. The question is, why zyprexa and not just over-the-counter sleeping pills????
Thanks
Rose

Rose - Most OTC sleep aids contain an sedating antihistamine (diphenhydramine, doxylamine, dimenhydrinate, etc) which, to some extent, wipe out REM (dream) sleep. So, while they do put you to sleep, they do not give you a fully restful sleep. The Zyprexa is sedating without wiping out REM sleep. This is probably why your doc is using it. Hope this helps - Cam W.
