Dear Cam,

Do you ever have time to fill prescriptions?

:-)

Scott - Thanks, dude (sarcasm). My wife just read this and said, "Yes, he fills prescriptions, but he ignores his family." She said this jokingly (mostly). I am usually in this site while my wife is putting my daughter to bed. I do read one of the two stories to her (my 5 year old, not my wife) in between posts. My wife still lays with my daughter until she falls asleep (we won't go there, okay). My wife usually falls asleep for an hour or two, giving me plenty of time to peruse posts. Also, I arise at 5:00 am (MST) to leave for work at at 6:30 am, giving me a half an hour in the morning. Some days at work (at the Mental Health Clinic) I have access to the internet and take a look on breaks and lunch. On the days I am at the store I do not have internet access (something I am going to bring up with the boss) so this is when I fill prescriptions.

I know I spend a lot of time here, but I find that it is quality time and it really isn't interfering with playing with my daughter or talking with my wife. I do watch a lot less T.V. now, but that can only be good.

This place is a learning experience and I don't go online just to come here. When waiting for new postings I look for articles to print off, relevant to whatever I am reseaching at that time. Right now I am teaching myself pediatric psychiatry and trying to find safe and effective medications for pervasive developmental disorder; also trying to improve my understanding of Alzheimers and Parkinsonism; and looking for information to produce handouts for the docs and therapists on the advantages/disavantages of atypical antipsychotics, as well as another handout on adv/disadv of the mood stabilizers.

Sorry that this is long, but I do have a few minutes now. It may be posts like this that makes this website not as good as it use to be. - Cam W.

I don't think so either! But I hope you're getting enough sleep and taking care of yourself. I read your journal article this morning. It was very good. I posted congratulations to you for being published but that post never showed up. So congratulations and thanks again for all the good work!A.

Saving time is what they're there for. Can't blame yourself for people who don't read'em.

Hey Cam,

Since you mentioned the pro's & con's of atypical antipsychotics, any thoughts on amisulpride & sulpiride....? I've also been looking into them lately... these sites may or may not be of some use:

amisulpride: http://solian.com.ph/

sulpiride: http://sanofi-synthelabo.com.ph/library/dogmatil.shtml

Michael - Almost everything I know about amisulpride and sulpiride I have read on this website. These drugs aren't in Canada and I have been focusing on knowing as much as possible on the one's we have. (Tough to do as most 'real' info is not in books). Give me a month to work out the biochemistry and some of the clinical sh*t and I will get back to you. Thanks for the sites. - Cam W.

Hey bob - I'm dyslexic - Should have read - "may waste the time of some". Actually, I did it on purpose. It is a cryptic message to my KGB handlers about the vodka shipment they are behind on. ;^/

//Oh man! What have you found out? I've got a mom in my parent's support group who is going to lose her mind if they can't find some help for her son. He's been diagnosed with extreme ADHD and some pervasive developmental problems. If I didn't know better, I'd say that he suffers from FAS/E or related disorders. We're wondering about Childhood Onset Bipolor Disorder or some form of Autism. This child has been on numerous medications and by the age of 3 had been on *Mellaril* for crying out loud! currently, he's on Risperdol, Clonadine, and Depakote and that's really not doin' the trick. He can be incredibly sweet and loving and then kick the sh*t out of his mother, bite his sister and throw tantrums, etc. He's a *Big* boy......seems to be constantly hungry and this was the case even when he was on Adderal. This poor child is a mess! Any thoughts?

James here....

My only thought is MELLARIL AT 3, GOOD LORD !. It is really sad that someone so young is so bad off to need to resort to meds so strong. My heart goes out to this kid and family.

Patty - I'm sorry, but right now I am just in the information collecting phase of my knowledge. I do not know enough about the meds in child psychiatry to give any opinions.

I do know that a Canadian from near Halifax, Dr.Stan Kucher, has done much work in this field. If you look up his name on medscape you may find a paper he has done that could help you (he has many published). I attended a presentation he gave late last year. This guy is incredibly intelligent and he really knows his stuff. Some lecturers are charismatic speakers, but this guy's brain power is something else. Papers of his work would be the best place to start to look for answers.

I am hitting the library in the next few weeks and will repost if I find any pertinent information for you. Sorry, I cannot help more - Cam W.

Patty - The psychiatrist from Dalhousie University is Stan Kutcher, with a "t" (sorry about the spelling). - Cam W.
