Pamelor

Posted by Trish on January 27, 2000, at 18:31:46

Hello,

I need some help. A gentleman I work with has been pulled off of Zoloft
and placed and Pamelor. I need as much data as possible as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Tricia

Pamelor is a brand name for nortryptyline, one of the tricyclic antidepressants. It works for a lot of people-- just as many as the SSRIs like Zoloft and Prozac- but supposedly has more side effects than SSRIs: dry mouth, dizziness when you stand up, drowsiness, weight gain. I took it for a year and found the side effects bearable. (It only partly worked on my depression, though, which was NOT bearable. I ended up on Zoloft, which did work.) You should be able to find plenty of info on it on RXQX and other med sites.

I take 100mg of Nortriptyline (Pamelor) per day. It has been fairly effective with my depression. I didn't react to the SSRI's so I switched to the TCA's. The only real side effect I have is the dry mouth. It is also a little sedating so I take mine at night. It is supposed to be one of the TCA's with the least side effects. My own opinion is that it is a good choice for people that didn't react to an SSRI.
