Effexor versus XR

Posted by Phil on January 19, 2000, at 9:25:58

I'm having a very hard time getting my depression under any kind of control. Losing my job didn't help but that's another story.

Last year, I tried Effexor XR and soon came a case of the itchies that was unbearable. My psychopharm. at the time said we needed to disc. it immediately.
Too bad, otherwise it was working very well. My question is this: Could the non extended release not cause this? Is the allergy related to the dye used, the drug itself, or possibly something to do with the
extended release component? Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

Phil, Hi.

I don't know the answers to your questions (there are others more qualified to respond), but they are good questions. YOu are clearly not letting any stone go unturned.

I am sorry you are feeling depressed again. You are right--losing a job is one of those stressors high on the scale of life stressors. Are you getting any support?

Noa,

I'm coming along a bit-last few days were a little better. Been beating the hell out of my drums and that's always been good therapy. Neighbors pictures are falling off the walls but, hey, I got rhythm.
I need to make myself step up the job search Monday. I may file for U C but have been resisting. Saw The Red Violin today...wonderful movie.

Thanks Noa

Phil

Hey, glad to hear you are hangin in there. Drumming sounds like a great way to vent. Keep us posted.

Drumming was my first anti-depressant. Although when I first learned, I probably led others to their doctors for tranquilizers. I was exorcising demons.
You can count on me hanging in there, Noa. Made a decision a long time ago that suicide is not an option! It just devastates those around us and I don't want to hurt people anymore. I do still hurt others unintentionally, but if I realize it, I apologize. Everyone on this earth owes others the best they can do. There's someone out there who thinks we 'hung the moon'. I won't hurt them.
Plus, like John Mellencamp said,"Dyin' to me don't sound like all that much fun."

Deep thoughts

Phil

#1. If miracles don't happen, then where did Dr. Bob come from?
B. I have a gut feeling that Adam has a lot more really funny stories to tell.
