every night I come to the computer to work on my portfolio. Wham...Bam...30 seconds later I'm at Psychobabble. I'm out of control. I'm going to Hawaii tomorrow for a week and am nervous about the withdrawals. So please excuse me for a week.
I am very impressed with you all, Janice.

Have fun in Hawaii, Janice. I am impressed with the folks here too. Smartest bunch I ever met on the net. Supportive too. As for the addiction, we could start our own online 12 step group for it.

I am so impressed by all the wonderful people on this board. It is an absolute lifeline. When I first started looking for boards that dealt with depression, meds and support all I found were what I considered a joke, they were either horrendous evil places or ignorant, senseless and blind.
There are TRULY no other places like this. It is a privilege and an honor to be part of this community! And I must say that one of the brightest parts of my day is every morning, after sending my three oldest off to school and getting the other two settled down with a snack and crayons, I get on the computer and start reading all the informative messages that were posted overnight. I appreciate the knowledge filled answers, the hope and support that is handed out to those in pain and the shared misery and triumph that is relevant to all mortals. We are family and I am proud of all of you and couldn't ask for anything more.
The support here rivals any face-to-face group around and wins!
love ya'll!

Yep. Great place to hang out. Especially when so many others in society can't relate. While every single person in the world has their own set of problems, it's very helpful to gain knowledge and insight from the experiences of others bearing the same problems as oneself. There are other mental health chat forums. But Psychobabble is the premiere site as I see it. Much more professional and technical here than other places. Regular visits from regular folks seem to give it a family cohesiveness as well. There are some real experts here and I rely heavily on their input. Unlike other sites where kooks are popping in and out all the time with the silliest things to talk about.
Throughout history humans have been addicted to one thing or another, but nothing quite like Psychobabble!

I think it starts with Dr. Bob.
We know you're out there, Dr. B!
That's kinda the point for me. Dr. Bob has a very light touch, but that's because the people who contribute know this isn't the Gripevine or Steven King's House of Psychotropic Horrors. When I first went on meds, a few "unmoderated" boards I saw were nothing but complaints and accusations against doctors, drug companies, all the way up to the military-industrial complex.
I, too, appreciate hearing from friends and family who come here for advice, or maybe just a look inside at how a loved one feels when that person can't find the means of communicating it to someone too close. I also like hearing from the occassional pdoc out there who wants to hear something from us. It's very reassuring to know that you're out there.
I'll be so glad, Dr. B, when I'll have a chance to thank you in person at the Babblefest. I hope my fellow New Yorkers turn out to do the same.
Cheers,
Bob

I first discovered Psychobabble a little more
than a year ago and became active on the board. I
remained active until folks started taking pot-shots
at others -- determining whether people were
"really sick" or not if they could function, folks
didn't know anything about meds, and so on.
Perhaps it was the nature of other folks' disease
that made them post so. In any event, personally,
being attacked on the board was not good for my
symptoms and disease, and I left it. It wasn't
"safe" for me here.Occasionally I would return to read up some on
new drugs, side effects, EMDR. When I started going
through crisis the end of July, I noticed that
things had matured here, conversations were civil
and supportive, rather than attacking. It felt
safe.Things were pretty bad for me in July and August,
and I began to gradually post again. The support I received,
especially from Racer, (bless you, Racer - I
printed out and still have what you posted to me
August)helped me get through it. I was thinking
of suicide again and making plans, though I never
mentioned THAT here (afraid someone would find me
and call in help). Psychobabble was an anchor for
me during that time.I have found that the sharing of information has
increased and the conversation has matured. It
has everything to do with people here, and I thank
you for creating a safe haven.jg

Thanks for the history.
were you a part of our "confessions" thread about suicidality a while back? If not, you might like to go back and read it.

Brand new here. My first visit. Lasted six hours. Well, it is nearly 3 a.m. Got to get to bed, but I am so impressed with the posts I have read, the intelligent folks doing it, very compassionate and sincere. AND CLEAN. That helps keep it mature. Thanks for a good evening. I will be back.
