Here is a link concerning the life of Petula Clark. There could be infomation in regards to this discussion. However, in thinking concerning this topic, I think that the aspects of the discussion could be too much of a burden to discuss on the board and would like to do so by email with those that would like.
You see, I see great meaning in symbols that may be unbeknownst to some and my views could be of such a minority viepoint that perhaps that those interested could be so few as to do the discussion by email.

I'll never forget the first time I heard her. I was completely taken with "Downtown". She has had such a career! Some of the "pop stars" today will not do a 1/10 as much as she has done..She has had so many hits and still performs... I am still in awe of Ms. Clark.
Has anyone seen her in concert? I've never had the opportunity because she has never performed near me.Love her!

Boy that wiki made me realize how old I am as remember all the names of the nighclubs and other performers. I think Downtown just meant that back then things were quiet population not congested and if you wanted to meet people go Downtown where all the people went at the time. Phillipa

They named after the Wermacht brothels (I think), and then Ian Curtis hung himself.
Still, this is magnificent, in a very dark way.

After I listened to that, I watched one of the videos to the right. I just started a thread about it, cuz it's not about the music, but a very beautiful old snow-covered bridge. Not sure where it is - there's a map there but I don't recognize it.
Maybe someone else knows. :-) Kath

Thanks Lou, and that was Keef in there at the back!!
When he came here he was asked for his opinion on life the universe and everything (but most especially health) and he said
'Just don't eat cheese!'

So, this song is about Keef's health, and is also my favourite RS song.
