Perhaps someone's grandmother used to pat them on the head as a child and say "I'm so fond of you". Maybe it brings up memories of being a child, and they interpret the word "fondly" in that way. Does that mean you should change? heck no.
If you ever want to change, because YOU want to, then go ahead. Until then, I'll be happy to see that someone is fond of us.

I do not see why this was a pressing issue to be dealt with, but phillapa did, so I expressed my opinion.I feel accused.
