I once gave my vegan sister a shirt that said "Life is a blur of Republicans and Meat." It's a quote from the comic strip Zippy the Pinhead. Zippy is far more intelligent than our current president. I hope this presidency is just a blur in history.

Interesting t-shirt.This President couldn't be just a blur in history. His horrendous policies have had way too much impact for that unfortunately.

my neighborhood is pretty heavy with folks knocking on doors, petition in hand....i have found an easy solution to avoiding the FBI while still adding a signature to petitions: i just sign Larry Hoover, and nobody seems to bother me again. i even have a nice doormat out front, it is emblazoned ``Welcome to the Hoover's.'' if you're in the neighborhood, do stop by.......all the best, chemist :)

That's because my father is Herbert, and then there's my uncle, J. Edgar. You don't mess with us Hoovers.

Ya know what scares me the most.
I remember standing in a room full of people asking questions of Noam Chomsky.I asked, "When is it our turn? When will the oppression turn on us. When will they hunt us down?"
It was 1991 and the Gulf War was raging. A young man had just burned himself in our town square. I was there. I was shook up.
Chomsky said there was no reason to worry.
It could never happen here.
I felt like a firebrand blazing in the lecture hall.Well, here it comes.

Nope, this Larry Hoover family lives in L.A. I can still baffle the FBI though. Maybe when they show up I'll introduce myself as Mrs. Hoover and I'll offer them some green tea laced with luvox, xanax and dexedrine! As Larry might say, "Live well and prosper."

I didn't know you are a Cannuck (sp?). There is no other election that I can think of that is of any importance by comparison. What could effect the world more than the Canadian elections?:-p (who thinks these things up???)

OMG, Chemist, I laughed for 5 minutes straight on that one. I had been trying to think of a way to work J. Edgar's proclivities into a good response but you sure beat me to it!

you should see Edgar all gussied-up and under the spell of Luvox, which has been known do induce dancing in certain Hoovers with whom we are acquianted: the genetic apple does not fall far from the tree, one hopes, and what a sight at those family reunions if one were to spike the punch with Luvox, eh? all the best, chemist

Well, the outcome of a Canadian election affects the exchange rate, and y'all wanna keep getting Canadian goods and raw materials at a discount, dont'cha?
My dad actually is named Herbert, and he is an American, and he is related to the President of that name. My mom and dad are divorced, and when she was in Las Vegas, she went out to Lake Mead. On spying the dam, she declared "They've misnamed it. It shouldn't be Hoover Dam, it should be Dam Hoover, and Lake Me."

Sorry to interrupt your interruption, Dr. Bob, but I think you've stepped over the line on this call. I don't think the use of such minor hyperbole constitutes being uncivil. In deference to your concern about language, I have self-censored all of my poems on the writing page from day one. But here, I honestly think you're laying down a standard that is so ludicrous that it has a stifling effect on robust political debate. It's not as if the post said, "All Republicans are fascist assh***s." I think a common-sense standard ought to be applied, and one person's opinion that the Republican Party (or Democratic Party, for that matter) appears to be behaving with excessive ruthlessness in order to win cannot, to my way of thinking, be construed as uncivil in any way, shape, or form. I think you might need to step back and think twice about this one. Atticus
