Have any of you heard this? It is pretty inspiring...By Bah Lumsomethingortheother...
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience...I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; Oh nevermind; you will not understand the power of beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at the photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked...You're not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing that everyday that scares you.

Sing

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind...the race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life...the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium

Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary...whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either- your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can...don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance... even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess to much with your hair, or by the time it's 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen...

I'm taking 20mg cypramil which I think is the same or similar to celexa. I've been on it for about 7 weeks now. It is helping but really slowly. The last couple of days have been pretty tough. But mostly from my own doing. It was my birthday over the weekend so I went out with some friends and landed up drinking too much. Apart from the humilation it always sends me back into depression for about a week. Anyway, live and learn I guess. I have decided to take a month out from socialising to get my mind straight and get to know myself again. I have been depressed for so long that I have forgotten who I am. I am only just starting to enjoy the things that I used to love again. I think it might be healthy to concentrate on that for now. I do think that it might be necessary to increase the dosage that I'm taking, but for now I'll stick where I am and battle through it. Any thoughts?

> hey kittykat, i know how difficult it is and its been 4 years since i left that relationship and only now am i starting to really deal with the after effects. I really want a normal relationship where there is no insecurities and complete trust but then i wonder does anyone really have that? what defines normal? I think the fact that we are trying this again, shows that maybe we arent as 'relationship deviant' as we think, and somehow this could be the very thing that can help us heal.
> I'm glad you posted and yes it does sound like we are in the very same boat, what i have realized is that its normal to have insecurities but not to dwell on them because that can have its own devestating effects...easier said than done i know but i am working on it;)
>
> Are u also on Lexapro? i am on paxil and its only been a little over a month, still sleepy and tired as hell, hopeing to get over that though.

I love the sunscreen song too! It was originally written by Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich - I think as a speech to a local graduating class. Very clever.

It sounds as if everyone is doing really well. I don't have time to write much unfortunately, but wanted everyone to know I'm reading the posts and happy to hear of everyone's progress . . . I especially like the yo-yo sisterhood and the Oprah visit!

Love & peace to you all,

first off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! it seems its the season for birthdays i have a ton of them comming up. Do you mind me asking why you feel so embaressed about drinking too much at your birthday? did you do something tottaly out of character? i have mostly observed that in those cases its not as bad as you think, everyone else around you is just as intoxicated if not more than you are so events will seem vauge and fuzzy. I'd say dont worry too much about it, plus it was your birthday you are allowed to kick back and relax. I have dont some tottaly embaressing things while drunk but i just said well next time i am going to NOT drink as much cause the worst things i ever do while drunk is like pass out in the girls washroom then have bouncers from the club have to carry me outside and find who i belong to...lol...that was bad, but i survived, that was my 20th b-day i think too. haha. we all do dumb things once in a while we are human its ok, dont worry people are too busy worrying about themselves to alalyze what you were doing.

I think it is a good idea to rediscover yourself again, as i am doing that very thing myself, my friend just let me borrow her paints cause in highschool i loved to paint, and play my guitar and go hiking andgo dancing ( i havent done that since summer). so it is good to do those things, but it is also good to keep those you love close too, you dont have to go drinking, maybe go see a movie? or sit together and watch a fav. show? whatever it is you like to do but sometimes its just as good with a friend.

Good luck to you, i myslelf am still battaling getting used to this medication, all i want to do is sleep all day and its pretty unmotavating.

keep in touch and let us know about your progress!!

Mag

Hi Guys,

I know I haven't been posting much over here on social...but please know that I do read the posts. You are all so wonderful, it's nice to hear that things are going well for so many of you. You're all terrific people and deserve to be happy.

Just give you an update...I saw my pdoc this morning and complained that my energy and concentration levels are only up to about 70% of what I think they should be. He prescribed a low dose of Ritalin to take instead of the Wellbutrin. I'm a little nervous about the Ritalin but figure it doesn't hurt to try it.

I hope all of you continue to do well and have a great day!

You guys....AGAIN. Today...First period one kid smacked another kid...Ok I can deal with that...LUNCHTIME these two girls got in an ALL OUT BRAWL, and once again, I had to pull them apart...The pulled some of the embrodiary on my shirt and knocked my glasses off. I had a good grab and whipped the girl around, but then I was SO MAD I started hyperventiating after I dropped the girl off with the officer I had to send myself to time out for a bit, shaky crying TOFUNING...The I regained composure...I go back the the cafe and a girl and a boy in my class sling katsup all over each other and get it on my white shirt...went about teaching my afternoon hour and wouldnt you know it right in front of me...RIGHT in front of me I kept telling this girl she needed to go sit down because she wouldnt let up on this other girl calling her names and what not, then she SLAPS her in the face...I growled VERY loudly GET OUT NOW...The vice principal heard it and got her...These people I work with must think I am a freak, but it all keeps happening around me. Can I tell you I have 28 days to go this year, more than that with wknds, but I dont know if I can do it...What if I get hit in the face and my face is all messed up for the wedding...dont think, oh that wont happen, because look what is happening!!!!You might think what in the world does this girl teach? I had the coolest of the cool technology today, each kid gets remote and you pop the question on the screen and they click in their answer, it is like a video game, engaging exciting promotes fighting!!!I can't win...Prayers...A lot of the kids apologized to me today, even ones that werent in the class. One said I wanted to tell you I am sorry because i said something mean to you yesterday but you didnt hear me, and I feel bad. Then another one who wouldnt work said the same, he was sorry. So i dont feel stoopid for crying anymore, just stoopid for picking this destiny!!!

Thanks, God Bless
Lexy

Hi Lexy,

Whew. Packing can be exhausting. Don't you look at all the boxes and wonder how you acquired so much stuff? I'm really excited for you, you're graduating soon and heading home to a loving family...not to mention a wonderful boyfriend! Having that support system will go a long way towards helping you beat your depression.

I've had a pretty positive experience with Wellbutrin. The initial adjustment period isn't bad at all. And the good news is, if you don't like it you can stop at any time without experiencing withdrawl.

Definately start at a low dose, I recommed 100 mgs. It's really helped with my mood and somewhat with my energy level. I can get out of bed after about 10 minutes now. Before the Wellbutrin it took me 30 minutes to wake up...and about an hour before I felt like functioning.

I haven't lost any weight on Wellbutrin, but a lot of people do. But I haven't gained any weight either. :)

I hope this helps.

K.

Thanks so much K!!! (nm)
