Sorry Dinah that you will be on vacation. I felt badly that I was going to miss the on-line discussion due to this poorly placed business trip. But your input to the discussion is so important, it will be missed.
Enjoy your family vacation!

It was fun. Let's do another book. How about "A General Theory of Love"?
Or - other suggestions? We could do Yalom too.

I'd be interested in that book. I've been *trying* to read it for several months now. Discussion would probably help me keep moving through it!

I'd like that. It's sitting on my nightstand, needing only encouragement to be read.

I must confess that I purposely continued it on this thread. I really enjoyed reading it again, and hoped others would as well. The joys of asynchronous communication. :)

I don't know about you, but if I don't set dates, things get put aside for forever. (You should see our half painted walls).

Yes! Any time is fine with me. Just tell me when and how much I need to have read.

I read pretty fast and I will be rereading this so tell me if I'm unrealistic or pushing too fast.
Can we read the first chapter over the next week and start talking about it perhaps June 2nd or 3rd?
Let me know. :)

I had put Sunday aside for rereading chapter one, then I got sick. I'll read it ASAP and hope to post soon.
Although I seem to remember having trouble understanding it.

I don't think this was the book I mentioned. I am trying to remember if we were talking about body memories at that time, if so, I'm guessing it was "The Body Remembers". There is another great book called "Healing Trauma" which is kind of a tough read but makes so much sense as far as how our brains now work. Annie Roger's has a new book, "The Unsayable" which I love and just finished. And the other book I think you'd like is "The Boy who was raised as a dog" -- Bruce Perry's new book. All of these are very triggering so be careful with yourself. If these don't look like what we were talking about, let me know.

In reply to ty very much for all those titles! and for caution (nm) » DAisym, posted by zenhussy on June 13, 2007, at 18:29:26
What I like about this book is that it takes a subject like love and tries to figure out the scientific aspects of it. And this first chapter starts with that -- the history of feelings and amour and how long it has taken us to even conceptualize ways to understanding them. I think some anti-Freud sentiment leaks out, which is slightly amusing because he makes it sound like Freud was given free-reign and "everyone" bought into his ideas, lock, stock and barrel.
The major question of the first chapter, for me, is: "What will making a study out of love and emotions tell us? What will we learn that is useful?" As we go through the chapters, I want to keep this question in mind, to see if we get the same, if any, answers.
