I don't know if that is copyrights, or quite what that is.
I have been thinking about computer games, recently. About how people play computer games and upload videos of themselves playing computer games on Youtube. It seemed that for a while, there, some computer game companies really did not like that, at all. Then.. Started to come around to the idea... Would send copies of their game (pre-release) to certain people precisely so they could stream 'let's plays' for Youtube for the publicity.
Now there is this thing 'Twitch TV'. It seems that it's a live thing. There is a live chatstream so subscribers can help out the player so everyone doesn't need to watch them get stuck / miss things that are obvious to everyone else.
Presently, people stream live on twitch and then upload to youtube later... But I imagine the time will come when the Youtube let's play (the persistent video) will go away / not be put up at all, but instead you will have 749 (or however many people) live playing the game.
That way... You can see enough of the game to decide whether or not you want to purchase it... But not so much of the game that your hankering to play it goes away. Particularly when games don't actually alter much on the basis of player decisions / choices and / or when you find a player whose inclination is to do pretty much what you would do were you playing the game then watching them play... Kind of removed the urge to play games.
I'm actually lazy these days... I prefer watching other people play games rather than playing them myself. But this is only becuase of persistent stream youtube. I can watch them when I want at the place where I want. If there was only live feed on Twitch... That doesn't do it for me, at all...
Only the odd thing like Rimworld where everyone wants to play their own game. Because choices really matter... And there's so many different ways to play...
Anyway... That was a thought on copyright.
I guess it means... I'm surprised that game companies (most of them) allowed such extensive streaming of their game. Maybe it really genuinely did not negatively affect sales. I suspect that is right, actually, and I'm not the average game player, at all...
Pretty freaky how Fallout whatever it's called automatically turned everyones microphone on in game without permissions...
I'd be most worried about that precedent.

oh, my, kangaroo mice are cute!!! Opossums are not cute. NZ possums are cute:
and we are incredibly mean to them.
I was amazed at how tiny chipmunks were. I was raised on alvin and the chipmunks and they were at least knee high. I couldn't believe chipmunks.. Or maybe I'm thinking of squirrels... Damn... I'm confused...

It is hard to know who the money should go to, sometimes.
I feel like the game developers should have a cut... And the streamer should have a cut. I feel like it would be fair to charge people (a little less than the cost of the actual game) for an entire let's play by a streamer (that can be viewed in the watcher's own time).
For me... It's as good as the Cricket. Or the Olympics. Which is to say that it's mostly a bunch of nothing going on. Really boring. Which makes.. Thesis writing start to feel more interesting... Reading that section of text start to feel more interesting... Having it on helps me get into my work. Yeah. Then, when something actually happens you can catch the replay (cricket) or simply wind things back a bit on the let's play.
I actually suspect that that's what most of the streamers are about... Something on in the background when they are working. Particularly helpful to help scaffold you into solitary work when you are having trouble facing the solitary.
I know most people prefer the live-stream thing so it is like they are actually hanging out with the person streaming while they are at work (at home coding, or whatever)... But I actually don't mind the whole watching the youtube... Years after... The time delay doesn't bother me, at all.
Huh.

And I guess that's it...
It depends how much money you earn, a bit...
But buy the game that's fun for you
Pay the player who plays it such that it's fun to watch
Pay the... Platform? That enables it to be broadcast in a viewable way (good definition, little lag, no ads). It's entertainment.
It's genuinely hard to figure where the money should go, sometimes.
When people start to feel that corporations (for example) are profiteering off of not giving artists their genuine cut...
Then people will in fact start to disregard copyrights.
Not because they do not believe that you should pay / contribute towards the cost of production...
But becuase people fear that if they do pay... That's only going to make things actually worse for the productive artists.
Yeah.

Actually, yeah, you should pay more. Because of the incremental labour. Not only did people bother to MAKE the game, but people laboured to PLAY the game. And, lets's face it, the reason why they are entertaining to watch is because they are actually (let's face it) BETTER at playing the game, than you. aka: me.
It's like psychotherapy. Which is to say, it's no fun at all when you have to watch someone who isn't as smart as you, struggle along...
It's when people are better at it... And you get the heave ho factor... That's what makes it useful / entertaining.
And the platform does matter. What goes on behind the scenes.
It's really hard for most people to assess. So it's hard for most people to know how to reward appropriately.
The fact that many players who are worthy of watching are supported by a whole 'mod team'.
Yeah.

I hadn't heard about that. I'm not a gamer, but my kid plays some. Not Fallout. Right now it's Red Dead Redemption 2. I'll ask him about the Fallout thing.

Yeah, I've been watching some Red dead II...
I just saw this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/kickstarter/comments/6rduyq/project_resurgence_kickstarter_cancelled_no/
Now, that's a shame.
That's one of my favorite guys on let's plays -- but he is starting to come across as 'canned' or 'non genuine'.
I started watching him when he was about the wife and cat and kid (in a way that was, perhaps, slightly creepy)... But I'm starting to see he has more of a plan for himself in a way that seems disrespectful of his backers...
Aka he doesn't remember the people who backed him from what he was into what he is...
Which should dictate where he goes (IMHO).
Tis sad.

Yeah... I don't know...
I have sympathy for making the best you can of what you've got... Even when the people in your vicinity don't really have anything you particularly feel like backing... What are you suppposed to do?
Like me? Shut yourself away and then never get to accomplish anything because people never feel that you're on 'their side'....
Or... Blend.... And bide your time...
Seems awful... But what you gonna do??
Tis a hard thing.

Everyone merges with everyone else. We get a generic picture of fundamentalist religion, interesting and various sexual lives, campaigners against homosexuality spotted at the airport with page boys leaving for Israel for a bit of counselling. It has been going on for a while. It's hard to keep up.

Many Australians knock Canberra but I have always loved it. I've never seen a sugar glider. We have possums up north. They are much bigger and make truly weird noises in the night.

Are all the native mammals of Australia marsupials? I exclude the dingo. There are monotremes too. We have native rats, but for the life of me I've never been able to know the difference between those and the standard rat.
It's a relief anyway. I love Chris Hedges for daring to call out heretics and fascists. Of course Australia is not at all immune. We have just been sheltered somewhat from the worst of neoliberalism and the resulting nightmare. The ALP is by no means perfect but compares very well with the Democratic Party.

Anything in a cage (except finches and some birds) is miserable. (Maybe snakes don't mind either, depending on the confines.)

somewhere you said something about older guys having a hard time... and that guy thinking he knew why...
i am not reprasing this very well...
i hope i haven't been... prescriptive. or dismissive. of how older guys feel.
i learned that older guys are high suicide risk in the US. i actually didn't know that... maybe it was just a faint memory... over here, it's about the young guys. and girls, too. but primarily the guys. the girls just self-harm in non-lethal ways. the 'gesture' thing. the guys actually tend to succeed in ending their lives.
anyway...
i don't really know much of anything about being an older guy. i hung out with older guys in the gym in Aussie. but they probably weren't 'normal' for older guys. it's also possible (i genuinely do not know) that they were a little chemical enhanced. i genuinely do not know.
i went to a lecture about prostate stuff a while back. it was the usual line on trying to justify why we don't test for prostate cancer or offer treatment for it if it happens to be found. he had a line on how older guys felt, too...
at the time... i might just have brought it hook and sinker. now... i guess you live you learn. i've learned rather a lot more about rather a lot more stuff than even i realise, sometimes...

It could have been worse. Beto didn't make it, nor did Gillem (sp?).
What do you think of David Pakman? I've almost finished his 3 hour thingo. He seems nice. Have you ever tried Fernet, I assume he meant Fernet Branca?
The problem will be that if the US electorate rejects responsibility for the dislocations resulting from climate change and foreign policy (Honduras! Thanks, Hilary. Count the coups.) the result may well be something like fascism as the problems generate a political reaction. Brazil was terrible. The Intercept has been good on that. I don't recall exactly. I recall maybe Kyle Kulinski talking to Glen Greenwald.
To what extent do you think this is a consequence of the Democratic party not standing for anything? When I think back to the Kavanaugh hearings, the Democratic senators were pretty weak. And no one, except one retired old supreme court judge gives sufficient emphasis to the fact that it is not only at all about the rape allegations. It is that in his response Kavanaugh showed himself unfit. In no other recent time or place would it have been. 'It seems like Ancient Rome.'
The nice thing about looking at this from outside the anglosphere is that only there is the overton window, the mind control, so strongly organised. Bloody Murdoch. Well, I'm not an expert, I haven't paid for a Murdoch publication since 1975. That was enough for me.
It is scary. That's why I relax with history. These things are not unusual.
