I really need to do something about my weight. Not only for my health but for my horrible self image.

Um okay, you've come to the right place.
first of all, what crunchy vegetables do you like. cause you're gonna be eating a LOT of 'em for a while. Forever, to be exact.
so: carrots are good-- I don't like the ones in the little bags, but some (eg SigO) do- but you don't have to peel those
or celery-- sometimes good, if a little sweet-- if not, yeccch-- but very very low calorie (so low calorie, I've heard claims that you burn more calories eating them, than you eat-- not true but....)
tomatoes? not crunchy, but good--
broccoli? great for you, a little heavy on the cellulose, but...
and then your exercise regimen. Have to go over that later.
Please let me know if there are any fruits you like a lot. We can go over your preferences before I input my nagging program.
And remember, your weight has been stable for a long time. So it can be done.

Well, at the risk of sounding like my father, who was well known for announcing that from here on out all he'd eat was canned peaches (or that he'd never eat out again, or never eat in again, or whatever has struck his mood), I am trying a mostly oatmeal diet. Oatmeal with artificial sweetener of course.
And V-8 juice. Oatmeal and V-8 juice. :)
I don't know how sustainable it is. (I already cheated today with a handful of pickles.) But oatmeal sure is filling. One serving of oatmeal and I'm not hungry for half a day.
Ok, I know I'm being silly. But oatmeal is one of the few things that appeals to me at the moment.

Dinah you do need protein as you don't want the weight loss from your muscles and the heart is a muscle. Protein drinks are low in calories. Love Phillipa

Dinah,
I have oatmeal EVERY morning for breakfast. Of course, I use brown sugar. And like your dear late father, I LOVE canned peaches. :-)MidnightBlue

Which would be more exciting if I weren't 198 for years before I made a huge jump that month or two I was on Risperdal regularly.
And I'm retaining water too! I can't even get my ring on. So there's room for water weight loss.
And I have an appointment with an ENT who, unlike my internist, has time to see me. God bless specialists, one and all.

I'm sick. I don't think I have the flu, because my fever comes and goes, so it all must go back to my mouth.
It makes losing weight pretty easy.
I see the ENT tomorrow (why did it take me so long to figure out which doctor to see?). If he can fix my mouth, my weight loss might grind to a halt. But I hope it doesn't turn to gains.
How are you doing? When I'm stressed and anxious, I tend to eat just to keep going. Right now I'm just not going.

Actually, a bit below.
And the day after Thanksgiving and the most I've eaten in weeks.
Not too bad.

keeping a healthier Dinah around is a great idea for all involved. your hubby and son will appreciate a healthier wife and mother who has a better chance at living longer.
you're doing this for you but others will enjoy the benefits you'll feel from being lighter.
it isn't about fixating on the numbers. it is about feeling better, having more energy, being healthier and the ability to enjoy life more easily than before. well done and keep going!!

Thanks Zen. I hope it keeps up when (or if) I ever get over this blasted flu.
I really am trying to be healthier in a lot of different areas.

takes time DM. look at your fellow deputies and their paths to improvement....GG is learning kundalini yoga while dealing with medication issues, CS has been doing yoga for a year now and has kept to her sobriety, Racer writes about her eating issues on the eating board and what works for her or what doesn't work for her. Sorry we're not more familiar with Auntie or 10der and what they've done to improve their situations over time.
Remember that health doesn't come immediately. It takes time to relearn ways of living more healthily. It takes LOTS of practice to continue patterns such that they become habits.
If a disease is within your ability to control then we wish you the utmost support to learn ways to control the symptoms. We'd like to see a Dinah who doesn't face amputation or other complications of diabetes down the road. If you're able to face those issues now you're already ahead of the game!

I don't rely on that to stand, though. It seems like just too great a loss in three days.
My guess would be 193-194.

That was the only upside to being sick.

Not until today. :)
Maybe it has to do with drinking or not drinking enough, or just stabilizing an unusually low reading.
If I ever get over whatever it is I have, I'm planning to start walking my dog. Maybe that will jump start my metabolism. Of course, I'll also eat more.
It really is harder to lose weight as you get older. :(

Dinah, you are doing good on your weight. Oh and Happy Birthday--I'm still catching up. I would Babble mail you but you don't have it turned on. Hope everything is okay.

Thanks Midnight Blue.
It's turned on now, and I'd love to hear from you and hear how everything's going for you.
I haven't weighed myself for a while, because there are certain times of the month that I just refuse to weigh myself.
Plus I've gone back on Risperdal and I'm afraid of its effects on my weight. I can't see going off it until after the holiday season.
I'm a tad discouraged about my mouth. I thought this latest ENT had the answer for me, but I'm taking my antibiotics and drinking enough water to float a ship, and still having trouble. Fever's down but not gone, and altogether I'm ready to believe I'll live with this forever.

Dinah,
Tried to Babble mail you a few days ago. Not sure if you got it. It doesn't matter. Hope you are feeling better. I'm okay just tired and eating my way through all the best desserts of Christmas. I'll get back on track with you after the first of the year as far as weighing in and counting calories goes.
