Dr. Bob! I'm excited. I'll like to start planning and yes I would like to ride a segway. LOL

When should we get a Yahoo group up and running?

Eeek, I'm going to ask for your autograph! I love you!

I've just booked my ticket because I'm coming to D.C. straight from a trip to NYC and needed to get that portion wrapped up. So, I'll be arriving on Friday, May 2, late morning and leaving early evening Tues., May 6.

Anyone else interested in starting to plan?

Can you invite me to the Yahoo group?

I'm almost 100% sure I'm going since I've already bought plane tickets and gotten hotel reservations. LOL

Unless something catastrophic happens, I'm going for sure.

In protest of Dr Bob's ongoing silence and apparent lack of support for the Babble community at large, I am not going to attend the APA convention or participate in any birthday party.

Wow CS - that's making quite a statement with your actions - what do they say 'let your feet do the talking' or something like that.

I can relate. I didn't even want to post here for a bit! How sad eh?

thx for being honest & open. luv, Kath

Dr. Bob, the trip is in like a little over a month! OMGosh, this is fun!

It's sad that not a lot of people are going. I'm probably not going to meet anyone new on this trip, but it'll still be fun!

I think you like to talk about Babble. Maybe I'll try to come up with some stuff to talk about, like the politics of Babble. You seem to like that stuff.

I know you won't answer questions like if you like cats or dogs better. LOL

I'm intimidated by you. Maybe I'll get slighly intoxicated with alcohol before talking. ROFL.

Maybe I'll tell you about Tomato guy.

You probably don't want to talk to me. You're into academic stuff. I'm kind of loser like. I might go into chemistry tho. I liked organic chem II. I got an A!

I probably won't even talk, you see, I have social anxiety.

Oh well.

((((((Dr. Bob))))))) Luv you!

Has anyone gone to the babble party in the past - in other years? What's it like? What kinds of stuff do we do? Are we together the whole weekend? It sounds fun and interesting, but I don't know what it'll be like being with all these people I don't know? How many people go? Can someone give me a day-by-day rundown of the itinerary...if there is one? Thanks so much.

Hi Moonlightsonata!

Sometimes there are Babble get togethers with Dr. Bob and other times it's just a bunch of Babblers getting together. Either way it's really fun.

There was a big Babble get together in 2005 in Chicago, I think. Dr. Bob was there. I didn't go.

Then in 2006 there was a Babble get together that coincided with the American Psychiatry Association meeting in Toronto. I went and Dr. Bob was there. That time Dr. Bob set up this Yahoo group for those of us going so we could plan out what we were going to do. We didn't stay together the whole time. We did some things together, like go to a shoe museum and out to dinner, breakfast, ice cream, etc. I think there were about 10 people who went to Toronto.

Then in 2007, there wasn't a get together with Dr. Bob, but I went and met some Babblers by myself. There was just 4 of us. It was a lot of fun because we chat in chat a lot and knew one another.

This year, there's the APA thing that Dr. Bob is going to in Washington, D.C. and he decided it would be neat to meet Babblers there too. I'm going with some Babblers I've met before. We had a lot of fun last time. There is no planning yet. It would be cool if more people went. I hope you go! Babblers are nice people.

Dr. Bob is supposed is invite me to the Yahoo thing, but I guess he doesn't have time yet to. But anyways, someone in the group told me there is no activity in the Yahoo group yet.

Oh, I hope lots of people go! It's going to be an adventure!

What are the particulars about the DC thing. I mentioned it today to my pdoc and he encouraged me to consider going as a step in the right direction to meeting people but it would be a HUGE step for me. I have isolated myself. I have family in DC but would not stay with them. Actually they are in-laws some I like some not so much. I have an already paid for plane ticket by my husband's company so I would only have to spring for hotel and incidentals. But it would be something you guys would have to talk me through. I would try to back out at the last minute. Not because of you guys, because of my inane fear of meeting people and my safety net thing of just staying at home all the time. I hear how excited Deneb is and it makes me want to be excited about something. So Dr. Bob, what are the particulars, I get APA and DC. I guess I could google APA. Or ask my p-doc as he knows about the APA convention. Does the yahoo thing have the convention information or is it a group thing about something else? The birthday party thing. These are the things that makes a person feel left out.

Oh well. rsk

(((rsk))) I'm sorry you feel left out. Honestly, though, there's nothing specific in the works yet. But don't let that stop you from coming!! Things WILL get planned and we WILL have fun.

As far as the APA convention, I'm not sure anyone will be going unless Bob can work something out for us. The fee to go for just one day is $430. That's WAY too expensive for me!

I've been in DC with Deneb (and Llurpsie!!) in the past and it was very relaxing and low key. We did some sightseeing and a LOT of resting and chatting. That's one thing I can say about babblers...they are very understanding of anything you might need to feel safe and comfortable.

I really, really hope you come, rsk!!! Let's keep talking about it, OK? Then maybe we can get others to jump on board as well. Is there anything in particular you'd like to do there? Anything you absolutely want to avoid??

Thanks Jammerlich, you made me feel better. I would like to avoid my inlaws. LOL. I don't do well with crowds but I have my xanax to help. It might be a good thing for me to do. I am suppose to use this plane ticket up in 08 so. And going someplace by myself well, that is all I do do is stuff by myself. I am suppose to be rejoining society. Not staying so isolated. I have seen DC alot with my husband, he grew up there. But you know husbands, they can be well husbands. So I don't know. I have been to all the monuments and musuems and the malls. But not art galleries and stuff. So I don't know. I can learn to relax to and chat. With Babblers that I know online. It would be a huge step but maybe I could do this. One day for $430, don't they know that even Disney World has a weekend pass, lol. That is kinda steep for being around a bunch of p-docs. I guess they think they are really really really interesting folks with alot to say worth hearing...

Anyway, thanks Jammer.

So many people are talking about actually going to the APA conference - at least that's why I assume people keep talking about the price of $430 per day (and discussing whether it's worth it). Are most people going to go?? Are you guys all scientists or docs yourselves?? I don't think I could understand a word of all the lectures. I'm just a regular person, so feel really intimidated right now. And if I met with you guys to chat in DC, I'd feel so inferior if you were all so smart and discussing science and neurology and brain biochemistry and all that stuff. I didn't realize poeple actually wanted to go to the conference.

Just to be clear, both the birthday party during the weekend and the conference workshop on Tuesday will be in DC, but people who come to the party don't have to stay for the workshop, and people doing the workshop don't have to come to the party.

FYI, the conference workshop was discussed on another thread:

Moonlightsonata, I don't know about regular, but I am not a scientist in that I am trained as in school although I am considering going back to school for something I am just not sure. I think I am too messed up to be considered regular although if my p-doc heard me say I was messed up he would object as I am not suppose to say this, I however, think I am. This is my own Dx. I am making progress he says. Anyway, don't feel inferior I am sure you can hold your own in any discussion in any venue as I have seen you do here on Babble:)

If you can get on a plane and travel to DC comfortably you are doing better than me:) it will be a monumental endeavor for me anyway. However, I am game to try.

I have plane tickets! I have roomate for hotel!

I'm arriving in D.C. the morning of Friday May 2. I'm leaving the evening of Tues May 6. I probably won't go to the APA meeting. I'm just going to have fun!

FUN! Oooooh! I'm excited. Happy Happy Happy!

Let Dr. Bob know you are going and he'll invite you to the Yahoo group for planning.

So far no one has written anything on that message boards, so you're not missing any planning yet!

Eeeekkk! Hotels are fun! Babblers are fun! I'm going to see Dr. Bob again!

I'm going to have an adventure!

It sounds like you had an amazing time last time! I'm glad you're so excited!

I'm curious how old everyone is (roughly, or course). Not that it matters, but I guess I'd feel more comfortable if some people were close to my age.

If we didn't know each other through this forum, would we ever be friends, or do we come from walks of life too different? I just turned 20 last month.

Hey Moonlightsonata!

I'm 26. I was the youngest last time, but others were in 20's and early 30's. Dr. Bob is middle aged, but he doesn't really talk much LOL.

I'm kind of immature and a late starter. I'm still trying to get my degree and still live with parents.

It'll be cool to meet you!
