Hi Lonely!
There're two chat rooms here, it's called Babblechat.
http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/ch/chat.cgi
On the right of the link to Babblechat you can see if there are any people on chat. You use your posting name and password to get into Babblechat. Babblechat is for all registered users on Babble.
Dr. Bob wrote this:

Anyone can contribute. Just ask when the next chat will be. I don't know 'cause I missed the last one.

Yup. Babblechat
http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/ch/chat.cgi
You'll find that link is at the bottom of each board's main page. Number next to it tells you how many people are chatting currently.
Follow the link, click on Register for Chat, sign in. You *should* only have to do that (register) once, but the system sometimes has 'issues' only Dr. Bob can fix. Please post here on Admin if it doesn't work for you...
>Or, is it just for a certain group of people?
Nope, it's for anyone who's registered at PB.
>Is there a topic or a particular goal?
Not usually, but this thread is about some research for a presentation in 2008 at the annual APA meeting. Read this thread from the beginning - or at least a few posts up and you will get the details....
Chat is available 24/7, but seems to get heaviest use weeknights about 7-11pm CST, I'd say. People just pop in to talk to each other. Or sometimes they ask on the boards if anyone would like to go there, so they can talk in real time, like if they need company right now, some support, etc.

Thanks Deneb and 10derheart. Finally saw it and registered and went into the room and tried it out - alone. No doubt that's the best way to learn! <grin> Appreciate the help from both of you in pointing this out to me.

What did it end up being? It sounded like a very scholarly project to which I could contribute very little, not having been scholarly for years and years.
But Dr. Bob's later posts made it sound more about personal experiences. So I'm confused.
Can people who aren't going to DC contribute? Can people who are going to DC but have no real desire to speak in public contribute? What would they be contributing anyway. Is it too late for people to choose to contribute?
I don't know that I'm asking for myself, mind you. It just sounded as if there is some lack of understanding among people who might wish to contribute.

I hope you weren't asking me specifically. I didn't answer because I have nothing to do with whatever they are doing and I don't know the answers to your questions.
Are you okay?

I'm ok enough. I wasn't directing my question at you, or at anyone in particular. You've been quite helpful on the thread. :)
I was just acknowledging that I had apparently intruded with my question, and I regret that. I meant no harm by asking, and am politely withdrawing the question.

And I thought you were kidding around with the "I see..." When I saw it I giggled... ooops sorry about that part!

I don't see your post as intrusive whatsoever. I just don't have all the answers to it.
I think that Dr. Bob is genuinely interested in the experiences of individual posters/psychobabblers. So that's part of your question, I think? I also think he would like some scholarly feedback about putting together a workshop for toronto. This thread has been going on forever, but at some point Dr. Bob asked if folks were interested in helping and if we could meet in chat to discuss things. Now there have been 2 chats, and *I* think we're making good progress.
The way these things work is that there's a deadline for submitting a workshop proposal, and then it's accepted/not and then at some point down the line there may be a second round of discussion about what is actually going to be involved vis a vis participating in the workshop.
I don't want to spread misinformation, so perhaps I'll add the disclaimer that my answers are based on my own experiences having participated in this thread for MONTHS now. more precise answers could (possibly) be provided by Dr. Bob. Or he may just be confusing and pdocish and say (what do you think? and :-) etc) well, anyways...

(At least I hope it's still "above" by the time I submit this!)
Hi Lurps, pleased to meet you! Thanks, but actually it was Dinah's request for info on how things are going.
While I'm here, I'll say as briefly as I can, which is not my strong suit allllll.... I've seen you ask for comments on why people post a lot sometimes and not others; why lurkers stay lurkers or not; or something to that effect. My own answer would be: I'm always trying to contain my Internet "addiction" (or trying to try... or thinking about trying to try...). It's hard enough for me to stay offline and not be "researching" one thing or another obsessively at all times, but when I add in actually taking the time to interact, and compose stuff when I can't even type... kaboom goes my so-called real life!!
I think that's true of many people, as to why they don't post. They're actually trying not to, even if they'd love to. For me, if I just get a few weeks, months or years behind me where I haven't posted, as long as I "don't break the seal" I'm pretty safe reading. But once I start posting... *sigh*
Have a spiffy weekend!
Best,
CQ

Hi, Dinah. I'm not sure if your questions got answered but it's not terribly scholarly-- much more about personal experiences. Anyone can contribute-- whether you go to DC or not, and certainly whether you want to stand up and participate in the workshop.
Not too late at all-- there's supposed to be a meeting at 9:30 tomorrow night in Room 1 of the Chat. Also there's a group that you can join where some drafts and revisions have been circulated. I can send you ( or anyone who's interested) Notes from the first meeting, which outlines the project, if you let me know.

That's great! - I hope to be able to provide some moral support and be a Babble cheerleader for those participating. (That's ClearSkies-speak for saying that I'm hoping to attend.)
Great news, everyone!

Congratulations! What are the dates? There's a vague possibility I might be able to come. I'm travelling to Europe in May and it would probably cost me very little to extend my ticket and cross the Atlantic.

Thanks for your interest! I don't think we need more presenters at this point, but we'd welcome your input, and you could participate as an audience member.
And there's our birthday party the weekend before. 10 years!
