why?

Posted by justyourlaugh on March 23, 2006, at 23:23:54

do you have deputy administrators? What do they do?
I can't *always* be online, so I ask other members of this community to volunteer to help out as "deputy administrators". Their main function in that role is to try to maintain an atmosphere of civility -- keeping an eye on what's going on and, if necessary:

posting requests to be civil
blocking posters who continue not to be after one warning
deleting grossly inappropriate posts.
They do not have access to registration information such as email addresses

I had forgotton about that line from the FAQ.

Yes, I agree, that post qualifies as "grossly inappropriate"

I have removed it. Dr. Bob can always override me and restore it if he disagrees.

I agree, it's inappropriate and a case could be made for deleting it, but my general policy is not to do that, plus it was replied to and discussed at the time.

JYL, I'm sorry you feel hurt.

SO WHY???????????????????????
This place is only about POLICY??????????
We are PEOPLE Dr. Bob, hurting PEOPLE. We EXIST.

***Dr. Bob...are you REALLY sorry? Sorry but I just can't beleive that you are. WHY would you choose to keep ONE harmful post on the board over deleteing it? ONE post. When you know for a FACT it is hurtung people.
My guess is its in the name of science.
My guess is that you want it for posterity and don't want to lose it.
My guess is that you think you might want to use it one day for your studies.
My guess is that you DON'T really care, cuz if you did, you'd remove it. There is just no other reason.
Unless this is yet ANoTHER test. To see how we react to what you've done.....
My guess is that you won't give me a decent answer to my question.
I am EXTREEMLY dissapointed.
I could vent my anger and tell you JUST what I think of this decision, but I trying to be calm.
Calm.

Bob, sometimes the person as opposed to the thread is more important. In this case that seems to fit. Even in the case of a post potentially ruining person's career/life, Im not sure you would delete what htey consider to be the relevent information, unless you see it as such. This is a person's feelings, someone who understandably was hurt by this!! Why would you restore what the majority on this thread seemed to agree was unacceptable???
I'm glad I won't have my computer for awhile. Im really sorry JYL, that post upset me so much the first time I read it and again still does even without names so I can only imagine how you feel.
This fees like unneccesary meaness to me. Is that civil? I don't know, i can't keep track of what is ok and what isn't, and I don't care today.

I am shocked!

JYL had NOTHING to do w/ what that post said, yet she hurts from it and has expressed it strongly. The poster has even asked it be deleted. Why delete the personal info. that they provided but not the hurtful things said??? That post helps no one being available!

I am in a stable enough place now to be able to read most posts without being triggered, or to find most arguments here distressing anymore. Yes, *I* said that! If that isn't progress, well I don't know what is.

Deputies are posters just like anyone else - they are entitled to disagree with Dr Bob. He administers the boards the way he'd like them to be run, regardless of popular opinion. I wonder what AuntieMel thinks of this?

(((muffled))) sorry you are hurting over it.

The post to JYL should be DELETED!!!!!

i see NO support OR education in that post. it has upset her and she has strongly expressed that. why delete the personal info. for safety reasons but not delete the post for *her* safety reason????

The rules say Dr Bob may - "delete posts I see as particularly inappropriate"

Perhaps it would be helpful if it could be explained how its appropriate eg the group, which posters or lurkers, if he chooses to keep it?

If its removed, theres no need :-)

I think the fact that there is that particular exception in the FAQ and yet Dr. Bob refused to remove the post would make me feel particularly hurt and insulted if I were JYL. It's like he's saying he didn't find the post "grossly inappropriate" , and that makes me wonder exactly what would fall under that description.

Dinah, thank you for at least ensuring the identifying information was deleted.

I think so too, yeah! yeah! (nm)

If I've followed this saga correctly, one of the deputies deleted the post - apparently without Bob's agreement. And then Bob dug it up from it's grave. Right?

Bob appears to be a bit...um...how do I say this nicely....controlling? So, I'm guessing that the deletion really annoyed Bob. Perhaps that is why he isn't backing down.

I don't know. The more we talk about that horrible post, the more power it still has, over JYL and us all.

I wonder if it might be better if we just left well enough alone.

JYL what do you want us to do?

polls tend to be divisive
(however you spell that)
just something i've learned...

i think the general notion is that...

it is one thing to express support for the poster
(which people have been doing)

and it is another thing to start going off to bob about it
(which tends to lead to blockings)

re being controlling.

hahahahahahah

i've been making the same observation.

bob doesn't want people to help him moderate the boards...

he wants people to read his mind and do what he would do were he here...

he wants people to step in to support him when the boards seem to be turning against him...

i don't think he knows quite what he wants re the deputies.

hence the fun and games around their appoitment.

sigh.

just please god don't let things turn into the little group of moderators looking out for the slightly bigger but still small group of 'annointed people' like there is at this other site i know...

sigh.

still... if things get wound up...

maybe bob will come back?

?

maybe...
