<shrugs> To me it sounded like she felt that Lou wouldn't want to be friends with her unless he held the same beliefs as she does?? Which is jumping to a conclusion about him? THIS IS NOT A DEFENSE OF THE BLOCK, but just my interpretation/best guess.

I can understand the block more than I can understand the P.B.C.. I mean if you can't saying dragging someone behind a truck is wrong.. I can't even finish that

Most of this stuff baffles me. I even read a book about civility hoping some ray of light would shine through my dim little head as to what's appropriate to say and what isn't.
I just try not to get upset about the rules anymore.
And I take a lot longer to compose responses to posts!!

ok,i just skimmed over the original post by crazy t that upset her so much....i wld issue a PBC only IF she didn't respond w/ that flood of emotions. i guess i will never understand- there has been a former poster that is blocked NOW but has posted HORRIBLE things and nothing was done until SEVERAL posts that def. go against policy offended A LOT of babblers. ok-crazy t got a PBC but that still doesn't explain the block in RE: to her reply to (Dr.Bob) in response to Lou.??

hey partlycloudy-
i see where ur guess is coming from.???? i read things on other posts though that are "acceptable" and they go against specific rules listed at FAQ;
then crazy t posts something that myself(and others) do not see in any way going against policy and she gets a block....i'm gonna get off 4 now-i just felt that her block wasn't justified and felt i should speak up take :-D care-carolina

Well, the post she was asked to rephrase seems against policy to me.

Maybe the block was because she didn't rephrase? I don't know - only Dr. Bob knows for sure.

This might help more.

Particularly the part about what to do when you receive a PBC. In this case it was a Please Rephrase, which is even trickier because it's sort of a conditional PBC.
It was a post where Dr. Bob has some discretion and it depends a lot on his interpretation of both the post and the circumstances. But it's not particularly surprising.

> I'm also fairly new to this forum, and I've never before posted to this board because it's too volatile for me. But I'm making an exception here because I agree with Carolina. When I first read Crazy T's post, and the subsequent PBC and block, I was confused...it didn't seem warranted.
The questions asked by Lou have the potential to draw those answers which could get someone blocked.

Or they have the potential to draw answers that would bring God's love here to the earth.

As usual you are right, then perhaps there is a little more to being saved, than being saved.

i'm with you, gabbii. i haven't even looked at the post where she got blocked. i just kept reading over and over the one where she got pbc'd and scratching my head till it hurts.huh? dr. bob? it's uncivil to say it's wrong to kill people on this site? i'm floored. dinah, can you help me understand this?

I believe it was the form, not the content that was at issue.
I'm sure it's quite possible to say that you find killing wrong under site guidelines. :)

phew, that's good to know. but still...are you referring to the cursing? i thought it was ok to curse as long as you used asterisks, and now that there's a filter, we're not even responsible for those? i don't get it.

Not *just* the cursing.
Obviously I can't comment on a specific post, or Dr. Bob's thinking about it.
But pretend you were the recipient.

but it wasn't directed *at* anyone, was it? i thought she was starting a thread and just ranting about something that happened. frankly, i didn't quite follow what she was talking about but i think it's because i was reading so quickly. (i'm an incorrigible skimmer these days. reading too much, i guess.)

I didn't look at the quotation in context.
In context, clearly the person she was talking about wasn't a fellow babbler...
She didn't override the curse filter...
Perhaps Dr. Bob thought a particular religion could feel put down? Although I thought the overall message was just the opposite.
OK, you got me. You'll have to ask Dr. Bob.

You don't know how happy this makes me, Dinah. If *you* don't get it, then I can't possibly feel bad about not getting it. (Idealize Dinah much? So sue me.)Happy dance.
But I'm mad about the injustice of the PBC and sad that crazy t got blocked.
And I'd still really like Dr. Bob to explain himself, although I don't hold out hopes of him actually clarifying anything. In the past when I've had such hopes, I've been sorely disappointed. Wanna give me a pleasant surprise Mr. Dr. Bob sir?

Well, to be fair. The PBC and the block are not necessarily related. A block can also be given after a Please Rephrase that is not rephrased to civility guideline standards. A Please Rephrase is nothing but a conditional Please Be Civil. If you don't take the chance to fix it, it's the same as a PBC.

yeah i know that. that's why i said i was mad about the injustice of the pbc and sad that she got blocked. i see them as separate. i still don't even know why she was blocked. but just getting a pbc when you don't deserve one stinks. so that makes me mad.

Perhaps Dr. Bob could discuss the particulars of this PBC and/or block, and his thinking behind it.

How about just the PBC, for starters. Dr. Bob?
