> hey, everyone (other than those that live here) love London or dream of coming!! *grins*

I was in London for a couple of weeks, back in in '93. I recall getting off the tube at Piccadilly, and coming up and getting a jacket potato at a stand there, and shopping. I liked London a lot. All that history! And the museums!

We got to the Tower real early one day, and they had just opened up. No one else was about, so we got to spend as much time as we liked in with the crown jewels and all that.

Nuh-uh, Ms. Butt-inski.

Doc Bob offered up Toronto, the weekend of May 19-21, 2006. Many people have already said how much that would be to their liking.

A theme has already been selected, in fact.

Sorry, dear.

What a wonderful time. I echo what the others have said, and wowsa, Toph! Eloquent, funny, and fabulous post. It was great to meet you and everone else.

I've got to let stuff percolate a bit before posting my impressions.

Wish everyone a lovely experience like this.

The gift bags were such a nice touch, annierose! Thank you. And thanks for all the planning and coordination. Sorry you couldn't stay longer, though. We missed you.

Glad to hear you made it back! I was thinking about your long drive yesterday. We had some rough thunderstorms pass through the midwest, so I worried.

I was a re-do! So mad at myself for letting my hubby get to me.

Authenticity

I feel like I haven't said much about the weekend. But it is hard to know what to say. Except that it was fabulous beyond my wildest dreams.

Everyone was so authentic. It took no time to be comfortable because we already know each other. It is interesting because usually you see people first, and come up with a "first impression", and then (over time) get to know who they really are (if you are lucky). But with us, we *know* who each other really is, and the seeing seemed more like just figuring out which body belonged to which person. There was additional information gleaned from being together - gestures, facial expressions, accents, pace of talking, real live hugs. But it really is interesting to get these pieces of information second rather than first.

I was not surprised by anyone - no one was vastly different from the person I know through the board. Spoc was the hardest - but while she might not be what I expected (I think I was still expecting a guy...), her on-board persona really does fit perfectly with her IRL person.

It was a very intense weekend (next year we should schedule naps in the afternoons - can we find a kindergarten that would lend us their mats for the weekend?). And I think it will take me some time to digest all that I observed.

I want to tell each person who came how special they are. But it is too overwhelming to find the words right now.

As exhausting as the weekend was, I feel energized and alive!

Thanks, Dr. Bob, for making all of this possible (and for being a real person yourself). Thanks to all who attended for being such special people. And I'm looking forward to meeting more Babblers over time - what an amazing group.

EEEK! I hope I can take "hardest" to mean, closest to being vastly unlike what you expected! ;-) One of the reasons I wanted to come was to show after all this time that whatever a "Spoc" is, I'm not like one; and amongst other things, I actually DON'T talk a ton or drone on (and on and on...) in person, lol!

Same place as the purses, which are incidentally back up and running.

Anyway, if people send you money, can you do it that way? You can even charge more than the cost.

And a hearty thank you to the babblere that were there - for making me feel 'un-odd' if that makes any sense.

More thanks go to the babblers wo couldn't make it - for the good wishes.

And a special thanks to Dr. Bob.

>I hope I can take "hardest" to mean, closest to being vastly unlike what you expected! ;-)

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. I think that I didn't actually have an impression of what you would be like. You are definately less thorough in person (but, as I said, I can relate to thoroughness myself...). And when I say "hardest", remember that everything is relative. I think I expected everyone to be much "harder" than I found you to be. So it wasn't that you were "hard", it was that most of the others were SO much easier than I expected. Like it was 1 second of "Oh, that is who XXX is", whereas, it took multiple seconds (but not many) to match my online impression of you to your IRL self. I had expected that it would take hours with everybody, so multiple seconds is still much shorter than I expected. You (IRL) fit very nicely with your on-board self. And I like the whole you very much.

I think I should be quiet now. I don't know if I made this better - do I at least get points for trying?

This thread is way too long to get kicked onto social.

The Greek Chorus was what we were going to do if we came with you to therapy. We'd just put masks over our faces (to indicate our emotions) as you talk.

You are pretty darn sparkli and adorable yourself girlie, and I love your zest, spirit and inquisitive nature... (good try on grilling Dr. Bob, keep honing those skills for 2006!) You know everyone seems to remind me of someone, I am trying to think who you remind me of... Sandra Bullock maybe, someone else too but I'm mighty slow today! Anyway I'm so glad you could make it, you added a lot. :-)
