I was thinking that specifics about the weekend would not be posted here but emailed to attendees only to prevent security concerns?

How about a mailing list for confirmed attendees to finalize the details of where and when to meet?

If we are meeting at a public place, such as a restaurant, I would feel pretty safe. I spoke with my husband last night, and I am fairly sure I can come.

Excellent! So far all the proposed activities have been at public places - parks and restaurants. So glad you are coming.

I didn't think you were fishing.

But, gee, from the way you describe yourself I'll be there looking for a warthog.

I'm not sure there's any way to prevent security concerns. Who would be considered "confirmed"?

A mailing list at Yahoo? One that's by invitation only?

Several people have mentioned that option. Maybe it would be a good idea, Dr. Bob.

But I do think you should announce the dates, and a general plan. Something along the lines of dinner Fri night, Saturday activities, and Sunday activities if anyone is interested.

It's kind of a catch 22. If you don't announce the date, no one knows how many people may or may not come, and it's harder to plan. Right now we seem to be talking about such a small group that it's not a big deal. But if we make plans based on a small group...

Besides, planes, hotels, finances. Those things need to be done a week or two in advance. :)

Sorry, what option?

I think a general plan is fine. But what activities? Or just "activities"?

I think this is what she was referring to:

"A mailing list at Yahoo? One that's by invitation only?"

Exactly

That's what I meant. Several people have mentioned an arrangement like that.

If that's all we got, then yes "activities". :)

Sorry I can't be more help there, but a)I'm not on the planning committee and Dr. Bob probably thinks I've already overstepped my bounds and b) I know no more about the area than I saw when googling.

How about someone present a proposed general (for security sake) itinerary (maybe even you Dr. Bob) just to get the ball rolling. I'm sure there will be more than enough countersuggestions and objections (especially if it's you, Dr. Bob) to eventually end up where we wish to be.

I got some insider tips, but I think I will wait till I post them...untill this gets more organized.
And I know I am totaly budding in here, especially since Im not for sure coming.

How about finding out what kind of food people like and then narrow down restaurants from there for Friday night. Isnt that the plan? Dinner?
Maybe Dr Bob would have some suggestions??

As for the next day my understanding is that it is not a dull city and that there are many attractions that could keep a group occupied for awhile. When I get more organized on my end I will post what I know.

I understand that well. It took lots of begging and please-ing on my end. And I've promised him he can go on a trip of his own. :) I see Vegas in the future for him. oooooooo

Money's *always* a problem for me. Fortunately I (we) almost never travel, so husband doesn't think it's uncalled for.

Making plane reservations and hotel reservations now.

I'll arrive on Friday afternoon and leave early Sunday.

Anyone else?

Plane reservations have been made.

Cripes! I have enough trouble trying to figure out what to wear - and there aren't *that* many choices.

So that makes those who have posted that they are definitely coming:

Partly Cloudy
Poet
Dinah
Fallsfall
Annierose (Are you definite?)

And possibly coming:

Rainbowbright
Auntie Mel
Gardenergirl

And I'm sure I'm missing some. Can we see some hands? And Dr. Bob, it's only two weeks away. You really need to announce *something*.

Dinah, thank you for keeping track of the attendees. My brains are a bit scrambled at the moment (part of why I attempted to opt out of the party), and I didn't mean to foist any planning efforts off on you.
I think it's called Burn Out.
pc, very glad to have made a U turn back to the party.

I just checked the flights again and I missread the price last time. The flight is double what I thought. hmmm, that means Im really not sure. My maybe status got bumped to a lower maybe. But im still going to check if there may still be a cheaper route.

I didn't mean to grasp any planning activity either. The list was really as much for my private info as for anything else.

Although I *really* don't understand why Dr. Bob didn't announce anything. My understanding is that airline ticket prices go up as you get within a certain time period of the date, so I think it wasn't as thoughtful of him as one might wish, since I kept suggesting it over and over again.

But I could be wrong about the air fares. I seldom travel.
