I'm not a committee member, so you can slap my hand if you like again.

It doesn't look like the numbers will be overwhelming. So maybe Gardenergirl's suggestion of a Starbucks is the way to go. No advance prep needed. Everyone can pay their own way. Are you still thinking of hiring security?

I'm not familiar with Chicago. I could suggest some quirky places where small groups could congregate around my area easily. Is there a quasi park somewhere near a Starbucks or nice little place with ice cream sundaes, maybe with a natural attraction to give people something to talk about in those first awkward moments? Next to a river or a lake. Not a state park sort of place, but a municipal park. Cincinnati has a great ooooh what is it... a conservatory? with plants, etc? Does Chicago have something like that?

I would think with the numbers and the uncertainty that planning with built in flexibility would be best.

Sorry to butt in. (Are we allowed to say butt?)

I don't know where people are staying overnight, but the part of Chicago I know best is Michigan Ave. (Art Institute of Chicago, Grant Park and Water Tower Place (stores, lots of stores.) There are two Starbucks near the Art Insitute.

Ice cream- Ghiradelli Chocolate Shop & Soda Fountain is on Michigan Ave., maybe eight blocks north? I know Baskin Robbins 31 flavors is in the area, too. Probably lots of other places. Chicago is huge and full of good places to eat.

The City of Chicago seems quite proud of its newest attraction. Does it live up to its reputation?

Dr. Bob said he was unavailable the evening of the 4th didn't he?

Millennium Park is about a mile south of Ghirardelli, Water Tower Place, tons of shopping and restaurants. It's a couple of blocks north of the Art Institute.

The park lived up to the expectations of a two-year old boy who wanted to play in the biggest water fountains he's ever seen ;).

They let you play in the water fountains? I've always wanted to play in the biggest water fountain I've ever seen. :) That's a two year old with good taste.

LOL. You made me snort Diet Pepsi!!

C'est bien. You said it correctly.

Mine's rusty but adaquate, I think.

Use caution if you venture on to deal with "trois," though. :-)

Oh dear...is this a burn-out symptom? Maybe I just need to have some Babble-fun.

Not an activity, but a meal... they have a restaurant not far from Water Tower, I think.
And since the music festival is on that weekend, we could do a picnic at the park, though it will be crowded. Or just hang out at the festival.
Also, I think there is an architectural tour by boat that is way cool.
Any indoor activities if we don't have perfect weather?

They sure do, at 730 N Rush St.:

But it’s not near Millennium Park:

The Blues Festival is actually the following weekend, June 9-12:

Right, the Chicago Architecture Foundation does that:

You mean other than Giordano’s? :-) Here are a couple guides:

The one at Prudential Plaza (135 E. Lake) is very close to Millennium Park, but about a mile south of Water Tower.

I suppose I'm not making this any easier, am I? :)

I think this location is pretty close to the place where you board the boat for the architecture tour, too.

And it's not unduly expensive.

But I need to know particulars.

Are we or are we not going to do anything the evenings of June 3 or June 4? Will everything be the day of June 4? Ending about what time?

(Is one airport better than another?)

Well now I really have a dilemma. My hubby has a very short business trip the week after the blues festival. He and I were talking about going up that weekend (10th-12th) and staying thru his meeting, and then coming home mid week. I can't see myself traveling to Chicago two weekends in a row, and I doubt I can take enough time off work to just stay there.

Dang it.
