I took the initiative because nobody knew where Dr. Bob was. Dr. Bob's erased everything I posted and will probably erase the one week block on LostBoy. I was trying to help. I haven't received a thank you or a screw you. Does that answer your question? You won't have to worry about it again, I can promise you.

When I think of the movements led in anger, the result seems to be war rather than change. Yes, war certainly does change things! But, I think the point at issue is positive change coming from anger.

An angry crowd taking an 'us vs. them' perspective is too volatile, imo, to lead to anything positive...at least until well after the riots have ended.

An angry crowd that quiets down to listen to Gandhi talk about a day of prayer, or passive resistance, has a much better chance of leading to positive change, imo. Gandhi, MLK...they stood against wrongdoing, and did what was right. And, imo, worked miracles. They did not come off as heart-attack bound enraged men, and I feel sure our world would be very different if they had.

Shar

P.S. I have counted 7 things in this post that would get me in trouble with my English teacher. I await my corrections. "Thank you, Mistress, may I have another?"

They go into politics, they write a book to voice their experiences and opinions on whats wrong with the system. They form political lobbying groups to foster changes they believe needs to occur. Anger can be a catalyst for change and its not always a bad thing, unlike how many mental health specialists would have you believe.

Many successful people have anger problems and many times its the anger that motivates them to get things done (attorneys, politicians, corporate CEOs, etc). Hey Phil

Sorry to hear that you're down. I'm sure there is an employer or two out there who would tell you that having a personal life is way overrated. (-:

No posts have disappeared on my screen yet. It would be a shame if Bob wiped out your post on the need to use posting restraint. It's certainly a worthy and timely concept.

Thanks

You might not get one from Dr. Bob, but you get one from me. I appreciated your calls for moderation. He deleted my post too. :( And I didn't think there was anything deletable in that one either. I tried my best to be inoffensive. Oh, well, at least it wasn't a PBC.

Let's just say I won't try to help anymore. Should have stuck to his policies.

Phil

I'm not sure I know what you're talkiing about since none of your admin posts (at least those that I know about) have disappeared. Some don't show up at the bottom of messages, but I see them on the Board list.

I don't think you should be discouraged. I thought your post about restraint was a wonderful demonstration of the need for us all to realize that what we post on this Board may lead to further needless disruption (as oppose to the needful perhaps). I really had the sense that you posted that for the good of the Board as a whole. I have no idea what Bob thought of it - if his reaction was negative, i hope he explains that to you - I think he owes you an explanation.

I appreciated the sentiment behind your post and i don't think you should fault yourself for taking a stab at getting that message out when you did.

PS: Maybe Bob just doesn't like the idea of citizen arrests.

Thank you. :-)

When things get too out of hand and I feel I need to delete some posts, I usually also delete any follow-ups, even if they're perfectly fine, because the "train of thought" of the thread would no longer make sense. Sorry to those of you who put time and effort -- and restraint! -- into them.

That is a very common error but as you seem quite proud of your knowledge of language, I thought you might like to know that the word to which you were referring actually is derived from the Latin word Fuccant.

I did some research on this and found that yes, the acronym idea is a misconception. However the usage of the word predates the RECORDED usage of fuccant by several hundred years or so...

"The best guess is that "fXXk" comes from the Middle English fXXken, to strike, move quickly, penetrate, from the German ficken, meaning approximately the same thing. A related word may be the Middle Dutch fokken, to strike, copulate with."

...Here's a blurb about your origin:

"The first recorded usage of the actual word is from just prior to 1500, in a poem written in a hybrid of Latin and English entitled "Flen, flyys, and freris," (in English, "fleas, flies, and friars.")

Non svnt in celi qvia
fvccant wiuys of heli."

anyways...

Aww, kid_A, I love you! Run away with me. I can be your broke sugar-mamma.

I've known about the idea of 'for unlawful carnal knowledge' bit a long time but hardly thought it worth writing something to correct another over. But your gracious, erudite reply was worthy of commenting on. Bravo!

Fuccant is pseudo-Latin, not true Latin, much like -
"Sic semper tyrannus."
Your dinosaur is ill.
and
"Bodicus mutilatimus, unemploymi ad infinitum."
Better take the nose ring out before the job interview.

The debate over the origin of f-u-c-k still rages & probably will never be completely decided but most have agreed that its origin comes from the Middle Dutch word "to strike". Interesting that almost all references to copulation refer to it as an act of thrusting, stabbing, striking & such - which is why my preferred term is "making love".

I always prefer my sex with as little love as possible... Though I'm man enough to admit that given the right woman the post-coital cuddling can be sweet... I just think that sex should be as dirty as our puritanical society thinks it is...

but, ive said too much. :)

I'm glad you took that in the way I meant for it to come across. I'm brand new here and have since realized this is not a board for even mentioning trivia. I also looked again at my first letter I was so nervous it looked absolutely curt.
I'm fascinated by language and word origins, and I'd noticed your talent with words, assumed you would be interested in that 'trivia, and I ended up learning something. Thanks for that and for not taking umbrage at what looked like a petty little jab.

Kiddo - Sorry, been a little preoccupied lately. I have just answered PM. I'm not being a snob, just a mush brain. My new hobby is integrating gravity and quantum mechanics ... the math is bizarre, but I have a theory .... just need to check some major points for flaws.

Did you know that bundling and strain on three-dimensionally connected elipses can sort of look like superstrings and may be the source of pre-energy? The elipses may relieve some the extra dimension postulated by superstring and m-brane theories.

Okay, that even sounds bizarre to me ... but it fits .... sorta. I need to talk to a quantum physicist because I am sure that I must be leaving out some fundamental process that'll tumble my theory like a house of cards in a vaccuum.

The short answer ... my new hobby and my job have been distracting me from the sites I use to regularily frequent.

Yes, I think I need some sleep. - Cam
