I don't know. Maybe tolerance builds. Thinking also like the more you exercise the more you need to achieve the same results? Seems most things are this way. And it's not right. Phillipa

maybe add an anticonvulsant, to reduce agitation and maybe reduce your dosage? Or go for a higher potency AP/AAP? Neurontin, for anxiety and agitation?

I dunno. I used to take 15/Abilify, now I *must* take 30, with everything else in the mix. I see where you're coming from, I do.

I dunno. Depakote is fairly standard, but I don't like it. I take 1200/Trileptal and 100/Lamictal, w/ low dose neurontin rarely, when needed.

I'd try to get trileptal and/or Lamictal, maybe full dose neurontin or lyrica. Have you ever tried Abilify? I think Abilify is more tolerable than a lot of other stuff on the market, that's why I'm asking. Of course, around 30-35mgs/day, you can't push it up much more and get any improved results (this from my shrink).

Sorry about your situation. I get the sense that most psychiatrists aren't all that great. The "expert psychopharmacologists" who charge loads per session seem to work mostly for upper class people who need fun pills :-( . Then the community mental health shrinks, like mine, just wanna ramp up the AP/AAP and/or tell you how to live your life (because they're affluent and you're not, usually).

Blah blah blah...I hope you can find a good shrink. Not to sound critical, but I'm kind of worried by your high doses. I mean, if you're schizoaffective, in particular, it seems that they'd want to reduce the AAP and get some other stuff on board to take care of mood and anxiety issues. Or...they could just ramp up the tranquilizers, I guess.

Good luck!

But i get pretty darn angry if i dont take. It seems to me that shrinks in particular have a stick up their *ss because they say i cannot decide for my own life.

Who does this life belong to if i dont have the authority to end it or to take drugs in order to not suffer that may shorten life expectation?

This opens up the potential for a life of seemingly limitless suffering.

Everyone can end their lifes except us because we are "special". NOT.

It sucks to know that no one will help you reduce your suffering.

It is cruel.

People dont get it.

I want to reduce my suffering, not enhance it.

Id be in the loony bin without my two antipsychotics. And as most of is know that is not very benificial.

It is cruel.

I may get on cannabidiol in october. That may enable me to discontinue one AP.

Why did you go up on zyprexa to 17.5mg? Did your doc tell you?

I'm taking 16.66mg z now. Was at 20mg for a while but just too much. I had to go down.

My doc told me i can take up to 7.5 mg on top of 12,5mg.

Im really scared that i may be forced to live a whole life devoid of dignitiy.

Do you take all the zyprexa at once? I find it smooths things out better if I split the dose up durring the day. Less up and down.

What do you mean by having to live a whole life of no dignity. why is that? because you will be on meds for life?

Because everything is so hard for me and i dont experience joy in my life very often.

I dont care about the meds.

And no dignity because the decision of living is forced on me. I think all life should be voluntary.

I dont have a feeling of freedom that way.

>I need more and more of that stuff.

The sedative-type effect tends to decrease over time... but that's a completely different issue to addiction.

Clozapine is generally the most sedating antipsychotic overall, so people usually take most of the dose at night. Olanzapine and quetiapine are quite sedating, but not to the extent of clozapine. Some antipsychotics such as amisulpride are not normally sleep inducing.

Can you take neurontin? I've probably asked this before. Even 200, 300 mgs day (divided doses) might help you reduce or maintain your neuroleptic dose and take care of some the anxiety and such.

I couldn't handle the normal starting dose (300x3 daily), but I do OK taking a couple 100mgs caps when/if I need them.

Just a thought...

Its a little more than a month.

I wanted neurontin, too.

I have quite a bit of anxiety. Currently it is that my APs poop out and i am subject to like 50 years of suffering.

Not a nice prospect.

I don't think its "poop out." I mean, I don't know you, and clearly I don't have an MD, but...

...you can only go so far with tranquilizers. At a certain point, some of them can actually *cause* anxiety (and not just akathisia). Something about the D2 blockade leading to the sort of anxiety commonly seen in early Parkinson's. I read a little paper on it.

I think you'd do well on 1 AAP, and then maybe use other drugs to pick up the slack. Like, I'm "Bipolar I w/Psychotic Features," which basically = "schizoaffective, from a good family." So...

...maybe something like my med combo would be good for you? One AAP, one or two mood stabilizers (I'd try just one...my doc is insistent on keeping me low dose Lamictal w/ the trileptal), plus an AD/mood-elevator, and then something PRN for anxiety, sleep?

Of course, you're different from me. Maybe...Seroquel+ a clean anti-convulsants (trileptal, lamictal) + a mood-improving, anxiety-reducing AD (I dunno why, but I was thinking Cymbalta...dosing is easier than effexor), + an anti-anxiety drug (?)

I'm not a doc, but those are common cocktails for bipolar I and schizoaffective disorders...a tranquilizer, a mood drug, an AD, maybe something for anxiety+agitation. Fairly standard treatment...

And you have a lot of anxiety at night or just feel sleepless?

I don't think it qualifies under the true definition of addiction. But dependent as hell, yeah! It took me 3 months to wean off of 5mg Zyprexa! I literally had to reduce dosage in crumbs, maybe 1/4 of a milligram at a time. The withdrawals were severe, equal to or worse than what might be called an addiction. The slow weaning was the only way to make it bearable and tolerable so I could keep working and stuff.

Bleauberry,

i made up this 3 months rule:

At least 3 months in between reductions of dosage.

100mg Seroquel or 2.5 mg Zyprexa.

Well see.
