Persistent sexual side effects are much more frequent than is commonly believed. I think eventually there will be *huge* class-action lawsuits over this.
Are you male or female? and what is the longest time you've been off an SSRI?N

I'm the opposite. My orgasms always return immediately when I stop an SSRI but my libido is still low.

How long does it take for your libido to come back usually? Have you ever tried any dopaminergic drugs like wellbutrin or dostinex to help with the weakened orgasms?

My libido never goes away..even on SSRI's-except Celexa.
I tried wellbutrin it never really helped except give me hypocondria.

Hi Slinky!

I know! It's just serotonin, serotonin, serotonin in the UK :-(
>.....and my pdoc doen't consider crappy orgasms as an issue.
My pdocs have never taken my side effects seriously - even when I was sleeping all day on paroxetine they didn't seem to care.

I remember back in my SSRI days of prozac and ciprimil.
Prozac was probably the worst offender as I had problems sometimes reaching orgasm and it never really felt that good..but when I discontinued the drug (I was on for 6 months at time) my usual sex drive and orgasm returned.
Ciprimil had less sexual side effects, I remember my sex drive being overly active on that too as it often is like this due to the bipolar anyway.
I can certainly say I havent had any permanent damage that I know of...
Kind regards
Nick

Hi Nick!
SSRIs improve my orgasms but it takes a long time to have one! I don't have much libido though.......so I don't feel the need to have an orgasm LOL. I haven't had a single sexual thought all day!

I took Zoloft for about a year and a half. I got off of it in early 1999. Since I was on Zoloft, I have NEVER had either the sexual desire or the sexual ability that I had before SSRI's, even after augmentation with several dopaminergic/noradrenergic medicines. As I've mentioned previously, while on Zoloft, I also developed a mild movement disorder that manifested as "chewing" my cheek. Now, six years after stopping Zoloft, that problem has mostly subsided, but it persisted for several years, as if I were still on Zoloft. When I was still on Zoloft, the chewing was so bad, my inner cheek would bleed.

Maximus, sometimes the genital anaesthesia can be fixed with testosterone. This guy temporarily recovered from pretty severe (2 years
persistent) dysfuntion by getting a shot of testosterone. Sounds like
his doc wasn't too smart, though, and didn't keep him on it long enough.Have you ever had your testosterone levels checked or been on any form of TRT? Also consider joning our group on Yahoo. We're gonna do a class-action at some point.

Hi Sarah,
That's good that your chewing problems finally went away. If you like, please join our group on Yahoo. We are thinking about initiating a class-action lawsuit concerning persistent sexual dysfunction at some point.

Thanks! Yes i should make a man of myself and ask a check-test for my Testos level. Enough is enough. Damn you SSRIs.
Bye.

I'm a pro-psychiatry, a pro-medication and i don't deny that SSRIs can be very helpful in some cases.
But the facts remain that they cause big damage to the sexuality and intimacy. Couples are wounded, singles are hopeless :-(
Now we have to boost ourselves with Testosterone. Shesssh, what is the next step?
