In reply to Risperdal withdrawl??, posted by Fidget on August 26, 2005, at 7:54:20
Hi Fidget!Probably my suggestion is too late for you, but may help others.
I had a big problem with Risperdal. Took 0,50mg for two months, suposedly to attenuate withdrawal symptoms from Klonopin and Trileptal. After two months I read users comments on it at www.askapatient.com and understood the danger. Tried to wean off a little fast, very difficult. Tried slowly, success until 0,30; very slowly then until I got stuck at 0,22. Just impossible to go down. Stayed there for 4 months and a new doc prescribed Phenergan to help. I took 4 x 25mg, starting with 25mg, for a few days, then started a fast taper to zero , 1 months in 3 steps. It was not easy, just possible.
The doc said there is a chemical affinity between the two drugs, so Phenergan displaces risperidone from the receptors and replaces it. It worked for me but of course is not guaranteed to work for everybody. Anyway, anyone wishing to try this should hear his/her doctor.
I hope you are OK by now, Fidget. It´s a nasty drug, isn't it?
