I had been on Cymbalta for over 2 years, and decided to stop taking it "cold turkey"- from 60mg. to nothing- and it appears that may not have been a great choice.
For anyone who has taken Paxil, they would be familiar with the "electrical zapping" that goes on in your brain after discontinuing its use, or missing a dose. Discontinuing Cymbalta appears MUCH WORSE so far. I have the worst "zapping" that I have ever felt, as well as dizziness, hot/cold flashes, tremors, and nightmares.
The "zapping" appears to be connected with my vision, when I close my eyes and lay down they are basically gone.
If anyone plans on discontinuing Cymbalta use, DEFINITELY consult with a Neurologist or Specialist FIRST. Tapering down the medication and being prepared for any side effects is important.
Today is day 3 for me, and I am unable to work because the side effects are so aweful. I feel like someone is constantly shocking my brain so I called my Neurologist and I am waiting for him to call me back so I can ask what I should do or take. My thoughts are to start taking the 30mg dose, and then ween myself down to 20mg. and then off it. I don't think breaking open the capsules and dosing yourself is a good idea.
We'll see what he says! I'll repost if I get any new info. from him.Good luck to anyone who is coming off Cymbalta, and I wouldn't suggest anyone begins taking this medication due to the negative effects from withdrawal.
