They're trying to make a better life for themselves. For a lot of them taking Adderral to help study could mean the difference between a job with a major law firm and hanging out one's own shingle in Deer Butt, Wyoming. I get it. I don't condone or condemn it, but you're right. It's a pretty serious gamble. I can't say that if I were enrolled at Harvard Law that I wouldn't use a little assistance, especially if nearly everyone else is doing it. I know if I finish at top of my class, Wall Street will be humping my leg and I'll be able to afford the best rehab money can buy, if it came to that. Besides, not everyone who uses gets hooked. A lot of that is genetically determined, whether or not one has an addictive personality. Besides, I'd rather keel over of a heart attack in my Tuscan villa at 40 than live to be 80 as a mailman. As the population increases and resources decrease, competition just gets crazier. So what it comes down to is character and values. And America is teaching her children that that you're nothing more than what you can buy. What's interesting is that Chinese students face even more academic pressure ("X-Box?? You have time for X-Box???") but I haven't heard anything about Chinese students turning to drugs to get an edge. They probably never saw Easy Rider.
