I think that's a key point, the setting makes a difference. And of course it applies to comments besides jokes, too...

I think the biggest advantage is that people can personalize their posts with signatures. The signature is really good for a med board because you can include the drugs you are on, that way others can see what you are taking without asking or see your diagnosis without trying to remember.
