amobarbital was a truth serum and a sleep med they used for years, but not sure if it was for public speaking. They used in in WW2 to sedate soldiers, but when they woke uop they had the hangover effect and i read it caused impaired ability to go back into the fighting field. Rumors say if you take amobarbital your more likely to tell the truth in your speech about what you think. It's prescribed as a sleeping medication but it is rarely prescribed today. They used to use it in psychiatric session, or psychological sessions for the patient to tell truth, but there is various articles about "false memories" while taking amobarbital while being investigated in truth serum therapy.
