Hi MK sounds like your Mother had Graves Disease of the thyroid as the eyes seem to buldge this is an autoimmune form of thyroid illness. In some cases a low thyroid when thyroid is added at the proper dose the depression can go away. I know my own hypothroidism is a pain as the levels do fluctuate. Right now they allowed the range to go to almost 5. The endocrinology society recommends that the best levels are 1-1.5 with 3 being top number. I don't feel psychiatrists should be treating thyroid illness. People should see an endocrinolist and then can be maintained by their internist. Phillipa
