Along with feeling better in the present and understanding the past, I looked at therapy as a sort of preparation for my moving forward in life - just as soon as my freedom from depression would allow. I wanted to be as psychologically healthy as possible so that I could start running right away. So, psychotherapy helped me to clean up the mess that was my childhood. I still have work to do, but much of that has to do with the lack of life experience.
