I have tried trazodone. Trazodone did help my insomnia, but not to the same degree as remeron.

Trazodone wasn't as good for sleep onset (I'd still take 45+ min to fall asleep on it). With remeron I generally fell asleep in under 20min.

Of course, different people have different experiences. The only thing I'd suggest with remeron is to keep the dose low.

If depression is under control, very small doses of remeron can work well for insomnia. I literally split a 15mg tab about 8 ways. Or, I would dissolve half (7.5mg) in water and just drink a quarter or so.

If you're using it as an antidepressant, higher doses will be needed, which may not work as well for sleep.
