Trazodone is working great for sleep ( on the parnate 20 mgs and lamictal (plus some gabapentin at night). HOWEVER after a few days I've noticed:
-An increase in interpersonal anxiety and irrational fear (I'm in trouble, something bad is about to happen).
-increased sex drive, other healthy motivations and less fixation on drinking and fishing that came with parnate.
-daytime sedation and weakness after Parnate/Lamictal dose is much worse. There are a couple of complicating factors: I've been sticking to 20 mgs parnate instead of jumping back up when depression starts to return. Some of these could be from a slow parnate poop-out...but would the weakness that came from Parnate start-up return on the way back down??
I wonder if the 5ht1 agonism of trazodone is working against me in terms of anxiety or the MCCP metabolite? Something in this mix is making me dead tired and confused when I take my parnate and lamictal mid-day.
I was taking hydroxyzine and gabapentin for sleep at night. The former was starting to fail, and I was getting increasingly impatient, bored, and mean at the end of the day. I stopped for trazodone. Hydroxyzine antagonizes 5ht2 like the others and may block NE/DA in addition to its anti-cholinergic effects. Very long half-life, AND it was used to treat "psychoneurosis" at one point, which is something I traditionally suffer from. On the hydroxyzine, I would definitely enjoy a "lift" at parnate/lamictal dosing time. On the trazodone the exact opposite happens (as noted above).
Almost too much to really parse out. It would be a shame to lose my sex drive, sleep, and healthy interests!
