What is this MTHFR gene + should you test for it?

A former babbler is sending me messages via another site insisting that I must have a mutation of this gene due to thyroid now have a free T4 level not that high out of range. And weight loss of 10 lbs over last year. Any reasons to be concerned thanks Phillipa
