I quit smoking 17 years ago. Before I quit, I had cut back to only 4-5 cigarettes/day. I switched to the gum and got off the cigs. 17 years later, I still chew nicotine gum several times a day.
So what? Nicotine is no more harmful than caffeine, though it's way more addictive. And I don't wake up coughing, short of breath. Nicotine replacement, whether with gum, patches, lozenges or e-digs, is a no-brainer. My doc, when I told her I still used gum, just shrugged, said, well nicotine itself is pretty harmless.
I know a few people who have quit cigs with e-cigs. They vape inside and in front of me and I'm like - so what? No secondhand smoke, no smoke at all, no bad smell. I don't get all this angst about vapng. It's simple harn reduction. More than that even, since the harms of nicotine itself, apart from addiction, are minimal.
