> as i've posted here....i am on 20mg's of zyprexa and 400mg's of lamotragine and prozac, there all at their maxed doses, and tell you the truth, all of this is an error....none of it is needed expect for the prozac....

> i just complied and was put on heavy doses of these....and they said it would flattenen the hyperactivty out.....see, i asked the doctor for adderall at the rehab, she wouldnt give to me because she didnt believe i had any attention deficiet, and zyprexa was used, it knocked my hyperactity to cloud 9.....i was dazed, cloud 9.....

> you see.....all of this is an error, i needed treatment for ADHD, but the only stimulants are used is Nuvigil.....but still maybe mood stablizers are good for ADD, level out the dopamine levels....
>
> does anyone know of a case when mood stablizers where the only thing used for treatment for a case which is CLEARLY ADHD....but was masked of being manic depressive....From what I've been reading from you on the forum, I think 400mg. lamotrigine is an excessive dosage that may be causing cognitive side effects that effect communication.
At the rehab, I believe that the doctor discriminated against you, and she may have believed that you were presenting the symptoms for amphetamine salts due to recreational effects. I am sorry if that is was the case, rj.
Rant: Each patient should be evaluated individually, and they should not be immediately disqualified from schedule II medication (for amphetamine salts, any cathinone substance abuse should be a 'red flag', however; proceed with caution or, better yet, not at all until patient is properly rehabilitated) due to prior unrelated substance abuse.
Rj, if a patient is describing symptoms of ADHD, then mood stabilizers are not the right call to treat those symptoms. Medications such as Adderall IR, XR, Dexedrine, Vyvanse, Ritalin, Focalin, Concerta, etc. would be a better first-line treatment for a patient with ADHD symptoms.
Mood stabilizers should not be considered monotherapy for a patient who is truly ADHD and not bipolar. Mood stabilizers would be advisable for any truly bipolar patient, however. You and your PDOC need to properly evaluate your diagnosis.
If you are truly ADHD and not bipolar, then those psychostimulants mentioned beforehand may be the correct therapy concomitantly with fluoxetine. If so, this would eliminate the need for any other psychoactive augmentation agents, including mood stabilizers.
Augmention of a mood stabilizer such as lamotrigine would be advisable if manic depressive symptoms arise. If lamotrigine is indicated for ADHD symptom relief, however, then that should not be considered effective.
Rj, you do not have to necessarily use lamotrigine as your primary mood stabilizer. I, personally, would investigate Oxtellar XR (oxcarbazepine extended-release tablets) along with the many other mood stabilizing medications that are out there if you should require a mood stabilizing medication as part of your psychiatric therapy.
Good luck, and what do you think?
