Dont laugh. I have had this idea. I hate the anti-gunners and their gun control crusade. one of the things I cant stand about them the most is they believe the mentally ill should not be allowed to be able to legally purchase and/or possess firearms. I call bs to that, completely.
Current federal restrictions to gun ownership in the USA involve basically three things. 1) being formally adjudicated in a court of law with full due process a "mental defective." Mental defective is as much a legal term as it is an old time psychiatric term. 2) being INVOLUNTARILY COMMITTED to a mental institution, this includes involuntary outpatient commitment btw. It does NOT include a voluntary commitment in a psych ward or hospital where you go on your own, without being prodded or ordered. You can be a schizophrenic and if you voluntary go to treatment, you can buy a gun and pass a NICS check, 3) if you are a drug addict, say if you are physically addicted to heroin or are alcohol dependent.
Those are the federal rules, on the NICS background check. Certain anti-gun states such as CA, NY, CT, NJ, MASS and a few others have their own more restrictive state laws imposed on top of the federal laws. If you live in one of those anti-gun states, I suppose you are SOL until you move.
Ive never had any of the above happen to me.
Anyway, I have this idea to piss off the anti-gunners. Create an NRA high power rifle team that uses National Match AR-15s and 20 to 30 round magazines. Let them compete and practice and have fun and watch them get to NRA HP Expert or higher, Across The Course (XTC it is called). Then call some liberal mass media and tell them about it, let them come out and take pictures of the "crazies with AR-15s who shoot NRA HP." And let them publish it. They'd whitewash it and slant it politically.
Then sue the sh*t out of the them and make a bunch of money off the libtard, anti-gunner mass media.
Maybe twenty or thirty shooters, all at least 18. None with substance abuse problems. I dont give a flip if they are psychotic or not as long as they are on meds and their symptoms are controlled.
The main criteria is you want to be on the team and you want to learn rifle marksmanship. And prove to the world "you see a psychiatrist, take meds and can be trusted with semi-automatic rifles."
After practices and meets we could do stuff like have pizza parties and give awards and stuff.
Plus it would simply be fun and get people out of the house with other people, other shooters and would basically be a form of therapy.
LOL
What do you say?
