I've been suffering with GAD, panic disorder and social phobia for years. Also have moderate depression. The depression is being kind of controlled at the moment with venlafaxine and low dose lithium. Also take some herbal remedies too. However, my anxiety seems a lot harder to treat. I've been on countless meds, but nothing seems to help it. Even benzos struggle - I have to take a high dose than normal, and even then the effects don't last as long as they should.
On top of the excessive anxiety, I also seem to be quite intolerant to heat and sweat A LOT. I know it's not the meds I'm on as I had the excess sweating before I started them. I also have a hefty appetite, get irritable a lot, have difficulty sleeping, and also have a slightly high heart rate.
My great grandmother suffered from hyperthyroidism which makes me wonder if I've inherited it??
My doc sent me for a TSH blood test a year or two ago, but he said the results were normal. However, I have heard that testing TSH doesn't always show up an overactive thyroid.
I have an appointment with my doc on Friday. is it worth asking for another test, and if so, do I need to ask for any test specifically, e.g. T3 or T4?
Thanks
