Jay saw you posts in the archives when I was looking for Marplan stories, good to hear you're still doing well congrats!!
I just started Marplan on Weds actually. Was previously on Parnate 25mg and it helped a lot with social anxiety and depressed, but my problem was that tranylcypromine has too much of a stimulant action for me. Notice I didn't say "too stimulating" because for me, paradoxically (well not really if you understand ADHD), excessive stimulation = sedation. So I'd actually feel more truly stimulated the farther AWAY my last dose was, and then on afternoon redose I'd become extremely somnolent.
I'm starting as a freshman in college next Friday and I really cannot afford to be fighting the urge to sleep during class!
Tried to experiment with dosing less in afternoon. But the extra in the morning was too tiring. And dosing at night put me out but my sleep was very light and uneven (kept waking up).
Marplan is a "cleaner" MAOI -- I believe it's purely an MAOI and no other actions like Nardil (GABA and phenethylamine effects) and Parnate (amphetamine effects). So it was my idea, and the doc agreed, that Marplan might be better for me.
On 20mg Marplan and I don't feel it helping as much with depression and social anxiety. Also the anergia and psychomotor retardation have made a come back. I took 5mg Parnate a short while ago and it seems to be helping with these problems.. maybe it's the Parnate withdrawal and I need to adjust (also got off Depakote earlier this week). Could be that i've been partying a lot lately..
I don't know if Marplan will be enough for my issues but Im gonna give it some time to readjust and find my optimal dose. I was thinking perhaps a low dose of Parnate (10mg?) with Marplan would be optimal? Gonna start another thread about that though.
I'll update.
