generic wellbutrin

Posted by jbear on September 7, 2008, at 13:32:13

I have taken wellbutrin for many years, and have chronic major depression. I have also taken a number of other meds. I am generally in favor of generic drugs, since the whole pharmeceutical industry is pretty much ripping us off with gov't collusion imho. If we can get the same drug cheaper, great.

But IF is the operative word here. IF IT IS THE SAME, fine. In my experience, brand name Wellbutrin works best. The generic bupropion also works, not quite as well but pretty good.

BUDEPRION is CRAP and should be taken off the market. This is really a case of the generic NOT BEING THE SAME as the original. The active ingredient has to be the same, but the formulation is different enough to render it not only useless for treating me, but also causes side effects that I never had on Wellbutrin or bupropion generic [including terrible dizzyness].

on the otherhand my condescending holier than thou pigheaded [former] pharmecist INSISTS that they are the same, and any difference is "IN MY HEAD" which is a cheap shot bordering on pharmacy malpractice since this treats emotional disturbances, so of course any problems I am having are IN MY HEAD.

The fact that he thinks he knows my body better than I do, and knows better than my own doctor who agreed to switch me to the brand name says more about his personality disorder than my depression.

I am so sick of this crap. I can't predict how any of you will react to these generics, since everyone's physiology and illness profile is different. It may work ok for some, and if so go for it b/c it is a lot cheaper.

But pay close attention to your symptoms and if you feel a setback, it could be that your meds are not working. Ask for bupropion or brand name wellbutrin.

Don't take no for an answer. If your doc won;t listen change docs. If your phamacist is a pig, switch pharmacies. If you can't afford the brand name, contact the company, and you may be able to get assistance. This is not "IN YOUR HEAD". To hell with those who are as arrogant to suggest that they know better than you do how you feel.
