i did not understand this myself. articles seem to be fairly low dose focused (1mg even 0.5mg), even tho intuniv starts at 1mg, and with pills up to 4mg.
i gave up at 1mg. had to, as i couldn't remember to take it once let alone in divided IR doses. i imagine tho, extrapolating from remeron, that higher dosages show similar effects of alpha-2 auto- and post-synaptic receptors sort of. the higher you go, less autoreceptor specific, the effects seem similar in description, or maybe just my vague sense of what i have read. that may be where you have to go with guanfacine. higher so the effects reach beneficial. i regret that i did not.
jay a. goldstein who before he retired was a major chronic fatigue neuro-psychopharmacologist and theorist, seemed to say that guanfacine was a good drug as it's selectivity allows you to put the dosage quite high, as long as you go slow. his focus on CFS was on how he saw it as an attentional disorder, the brains inability to not overfatigue itself with irrelevant stimuli, leading to distinct neuropsychiatric and somatic problems, including pain.
