I hadn't heard about this new drug from Pfizer that was recently approved (late '06) to help quit smoking. Method of action from Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chantix
===================
Varenicline is a partial agonist of the a4b2 subtype of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. In addition it acts on a3b4 and weakly on a3b2 and a6-containing receptors. A full agonism was displayed on a7-receptors.[2]
===================Again I hadn't heard of this medication prior to my visit w/ the pdoc yesterday where another patient was trying to figure out what it's name was. I incorrectly suggested Zyban (by default) but aparently this is much more specific in that it targets the nicotine receptor instead of dopamine.
Just wondering if anyone here could provide any anecdotal info on it. I'd especially be interested in medications anyone has taken w/ this and whether or not it caused any problems (contradictions). Recently I've fallen back to smoking a pack a day so I'm hoping this might be an option.
Remedyfind had only 3 ratings so any insight is greatly appreciated...
