I too am nervous in some ways but I figure ..what have I got to lose. I have researched it as much as I feel I can w/o being overly obsessive. I know it may not work for me but I also know I have to try. Even if I only improve 25 to 50 % , that is a win in my book. It is NOT a quick fix and I would say from what I have read and heard many or most people do have med contination. I have particpated in a couple of tele-conferences that were done by Cyberonics-- I still have lots of questions. It does (Phillipa) seem kind of strange to me as well as far as a 'device' in my body. However, I also know that those very strange thoughts could and most likely be associated with my long term depressive thinking accompanying anxiety etc. After 16 years of on again and mostly off functioning to a level that I know I can and have been to before, I question my motives and wonder...is it me or am I really bad enough for VNS. I also attribute those to my "wierdness" that is or is not going on in my brain. Depression has changed me. It has changed my out look on life, it makes me many things I am not. I want the old me back and so does my family. I am trying my best to go into this new year with a positive mindset (if that is possible) with chronic dep and anx! lol.... hoping for the treatment to be an asset and even if not 100% recovery then very good progress. I have read many testimonials about VNS ,listened personally to first hand accounts by present VNS patients etc. and from what most seem to say, it comes slowly and many say it improves with time . It also does for some allow them to dc/ some or all meds. I would be happy to do my best in relaying information to anyone that would like more info -- I know that Jerrympls had the procedure and it did not work for him. How ever I do not thaink that we should base are hopes and expectations, thoughts, and questions and fears about one or a few posters here on babble. We are afterall all in this together and I think we should do what ever we can to help each other out . Like I said , I want my life back and the next year to two years are going pass anyhow. Why not add a therapy that might possibly have the ability to help many get our lives back. Nothing is for sure. Who really knows.
