Argh! I knew I was running low on Lamictal when I saw my pdoc last week. She gave me a scrip for 90 days so I could send it to my mail order pharmacy, which saves me $ on copays. I sent it in right away and requested the overnight delivery (extra $$ but should get it to me in time). Who knew it would take more than five days for the pharmacy to even get my order???
So I had just one tablet left tonight. I take two in a.m. and two at night. I called the mail order pharmacy to see what the holdup was in my order. It was still "in processing", so I called my pdoc to request a small scrip to tide me over. I asked the person at the pharmacy if this would mess up my insurance coverage, since I know you can only fill it every so many weeks or so. She said no. Duh, she didn't tell me it wouldn't affect refill status because I'd have to pay out of pocket! I should have known, but I didn't realize.
My wonderful "save me from spiders" husband was stuck at the retail pharmacy tonight trying to figure this out and finally paid $102 for 20 pills! And to make it even more aggravating, when I went online to get the phone number for Caremark to ask about it again, I noticed that my order now said it had shipped, and I'll receive it tomorrow afternoon.
Argh! Fortunately, I called the retail pharmacy, and they said I could bring the Lamictal they had dispensed back for a refund since I hadn't even opened the package. Thank goodness. I don't know if I could "swallow" taking 4 $5+ pills a day.
I realize I'm fortunate to have insurance and not everyone does. But wowsa! This just floored me, and the timing of it all was really annoying.
Bah.
