Not only have I not found a shred of evidence suggesting that Prozac is good for GAD, my own experience is proving that it is possibly worse for my GAD. I took my dose a little while ago, and as I sit here feeling the agitation and nervousness coming on, I think about how I wish my doctor seemed to know what he was doing. I'm sorry, but seriously, I looked it all up. Zoloft would have been the logical next choice. And when he prescribed the prozac, he was like "oh I could flip a coin, they all do the same thing." Do I really want someone treating my GAD that takes such a lacksidasical approach?
Blah. I'm gonna ask my GP for Zoloft, he's 10 times the doctor my pdoc is. Stupid restrictive HMO. :-\ I'd switch pdocs but I'm not sure it would help much. I hate my HMO.
Just to recap, I have taken BuSpar, Wellbutrin (that stuff made me super hyper), Paxil, Celexa, Effexor, and now Prozac. I take Xanax for situational anxiety, and I think I'm going to give up completely on Klonopin now because it doesn't work as well as the Xanax and it makes me depressed. So, there's my drugs. Well, at least the relevant drugs. I also take a BCP but it has no effect on my anxiety (maybe relieves the anxiety of getting pregnant LOL).
I can't wait 'til I have a teaching job and I can get my own insurance. My husband (who never visits the doctor) can keep the crappy cheap HMO, I'll get some good insurance (PPO I hope!) so I can get good mental health care. My HMO doesn't even have long term counseling. It's so lame. They have these silly group classes to help a person "manage" their anxiety, depression, whatever the class is about. Personally, I don't want to do that in a group. I want to do that one on one, with a nice, caring therapist (that I have yet to find anyway).
I hate Prozac, I hate my pdoc, and I hate my HMO.
Time to take some xanax before I completely freak out. *sigh*
