In reply to Memantine -- questions, posted by Sarah T. on January 28, 2006, at 2:38:26
Memantine does seem to be slightly anxiolytic. It somewhat normalizes the degree of glutamate use, espcially, if I recall correctly, in the striatum, and other motor areas of the brain. It's also used in alzherimer's, however, and I have heard from Dr.s who are curious if it can help in ADHD and other "hypofrontal" problems. It has little to no side effects at low to moderate dosages, however, at higher dosages, I belive their are side effects that are somewhat comparable to PCP, except not without the rage (as I've heard.) It can definitely induce dementia at higher dosages. It would probably be best to augment it with another antidepressant, ore lamictal, depending on the pharamcokinetics. Hope this helps.
