Waking too early or being unable to get back to sleep only happened when I was extemely depressed. I know Ambien was supposed to be tolerance inducing, but I could still feel it 20 minutes after I took it, for several years. I only stopped it because I stopped everything for a while. When I suggested to gp I needed something again she tried Lunesta -nope, not for me. My new pdoc got me the Ambien CR.
I'm going to repeat the warning I give everyone when discussing Ambien. Go right to bed. The hypnotic effect can go weird. Especially if you had some alcohol.
