I think the point was both that you suggest that psychiatrists are poisoning their patients and are unqualified as physicians; and that all it takes to recover from Major Depressive Disorder is to "pull yourself up by your bootstraps." Most of us here have already heard that it's our own fault we're depressed, that we don't have anything to be depressed about, that we have to be depressed *about* something, etc. I know that I feel both accused and put down by those sentiments, and that's what the civility guidelines are about: not posting anything that could make another poster here feel accused or put down.
For what it's worth, although the exact mechanisms are still being studied, researchers have found changes to the brain associated with Major Depression, as well as genetic factors predisposing people to the condition. Antidepressant medications, by whatever mechanism, do help correct those changes to the brain.
I'm sorry that you've had bad experiences with psychotropic medications. For some of us, though, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and we are grateful when we find options that work for us.
