In reply to which mood stabilizer for my symptoms?, posted by tendency on March 29, 2005, at 19:14:10
Hi:
It sounds to me like your Bp is NOT easy to get under control. I, too have Bp with ultra-rapid cycler like yours. For this form of Bp, most of pdocs. has a difficult time to rx a proper med. combo. For me, it took almost two and a half years to find a right pdoc. who is willing to help me out.In my opinion through the experience along with the reading others who has similar to same Bp category, there needs some 'aggressive' tx that includes anti-psycho. med. like Zyprexa and Seroquel. Just a typical mood-stabilizer with anti-depressant(if you're on) does NOT alleviate all of those symptoms you have. Sorry to be SO honest and blunt about this, ... but you seem SO desperate to get a 'real' answer on this.
First off, you may need 'overwhole' your med. regimen due to 'severity' of your Bp symptoms. Rapid cycler along with 'intense' mood-swings need aggressive med. regimen to get under control. Simply, it's because this form of Bp is more than typical Bp. In other word, Bper's with rapid cycler have rapid cycler on top of Bipolar, ... as if you have 'two' illnesses combined in one disorder. I, still have some 'bad' days even on my med. regimen, Zyprexa 5 mg., Lithium 900 mg. along with two anti-depressants. However, I've been 'almost' normal to hold a job and doing 'normal' social acitivies to enjoy every day. Then, it seems to me finally the 'reward' came to my 'endless' effort on my Bp tx.
In my suggestion, first you need to talk with your pdoc. asking whether any 'aggressive' med. regimen is available to you.
