There's nothing in the world that I hate more than chewing noises. I absolutely can't stand it, and what's worse is when someone seems to be doing it in an inconsiderate manner such as when they're talking to you on the phone or just chewing with their mouth wide open or talking with a mouthful of food. Or CHEWING GUM.
I dread going to the movies because of all the people chewing popcorn with their mouths open, especially kids. It's disgusting.
My father was the same way.
I can't stand people chewing gum. Eating a meal is one thing, I try to tolerate it to be somewhat sociable once in a while but gum? Come on. The thought of taking a bodily function that is audible to others and making it happen all day long for no apparent reason is just mind-boggling, disgusting and inconsiderate of others.
The sounds of someone chewing, squishing food around in their mouth is something that makes my skin crawl. I swear I even get some weird fight-or-flight reflex... it's like I just feel this rush of anger and want to leave the room. If I can, I usually do.
I have a boss who often comes into my office and has to view things on my computer screen with me, sitting right next to me. She NEVER arrives at my office without food. Always. Chips, crunchy salad, all eaten inches from my ear. Often I can't even stay in the room, I make up an excuse to have to hit the ladies' room or something.
My best friend laughs because I told her I can't understand why eating isn't treated as going to the bathroom is- it should be done in private. I go to the bathroom all alone and I'd prefer to eat that way, and for nobody to expect me to stick around and witness the spectacle of them ingesting a friggen meal.
Thanks for the great site. Glad I'm not the only one.
